BIAB 2022 – is not your father’s music accompaniment app. PG Music took a giant step forward with this year’s introduction. Much of the forum rank and file were promoting a slowdown in 2022 to emphasize a look back to tighten up the aging code, however, PG Music had a different idea:
“If we are going to revisit aging code, why not take this opportunity to concurrently Expand and Enhance the code to show off the full capabilities.”
The resulting expansion includes Micro Chords which allow the ability for chord placement with a 1/16 note versus the prior quarter note resolution. On top of that, the MultiRiffs feature got a huge enhancement to permit regeneration at the bar level for selected portions of a track while maintaining the remaining portions.
All tracks are the Same is a paradigm shift in how BIAB has operated in the past. This new feature harmonizes the legacy tracks with the prior introduced Utility Tracks. The resulting new track design and editing windows brings BIAB into the realm of a multitrack DAW.
BIAB, has taken its 2022 offering to a new level. To add my rapidly devaluing 2c, this release is a true Game Changer. A few examples:
Multi Chords. You now have the ability to put four chords on each beat. Now, that gets very sloppy at faster tempos but you can also choose which instrument plays it while the other instruments just play the basic chord for that beat. Extremely flexible.
Motifs. This is part of the MC dialog. It allows you to create a specific rhythm for an instrument to play. This is most obvious with the horn sections but it works with all your instrument tracks if you wanted. I've barely scratched the surface with this one.
Playable Real Tracks. This is absolsutely mind blowing and I have no idea how they made this work. How many times have we responsded to the question Why can't I change what a RT is playing like making a RT sax play a melody for example or make a bass RT play a specific bass line? NOW YOU CAN! This could be the single biggest new feature and if this was the only new thing they did it would make this release worth it by itself.
Wait there's more... The Drum Stems. Love the RD track but want to bump up the snare? Or the kick? Or, add one of those to replace what's already there? It's all possible now.
The somewhaat bad news is the Playable RT's and Drum Stems are limited to certain instrument tracks and finding out exactly what styles have them or finding the exact track to add to your song is tricky right now. They will be adding new ones over time.
Any one of these will keep you busy for some time but all of them together? We'll be having fun all year just learning all the ins and outs of these features. Everybody loves things to be as simple as possible. These new features are definitly not that. There is a learning curve here but I think everyone pretty much agrees the results will be worth it.
If there's ever a case for actually reading the documentation instead of simply diving in and figuring it out as you go, this is it.

+1 to all that has been said, I have been playing around with all the new features this morning, absolutely love the MC (microchords) up to 16 chords on a bar.
The new Multiriffs feature is great too as well as the nice sounding styles in the Xtra pak 12 and and Xpro pak 2.
Will definitely help me improve my audio mixing skills as well, with the new vocal songs in the 49 Pak.
All in all, the release of Biab 2022 has been a nice surprise for me as I definitely didn't see all these new features coming.

This multiriff feauture allows you to choose the best parts of a particular solo in its various variations within Biab, is that right? I find it a little confusing that this feature has "riff" in its name because a guitar riff and a guitar solo are two completely different things imho...
Will definitely help me improve my audio mixing skills as well, with the new vocal songs in the 49 Pak.
What exactly are these new vocal songs and do they sound good?
All in all, the release of Biab 2022 has been a nice surprise for me as I definitely didn't see all these new features coming.
Same here! Which is why I'm seriously considering buying as soon as possible. (I previously planned to wait another year or even two.)

I would think that because we are dealing with short phrases with lengths of maybe four bars at a time, they have called it riffs for this reason.

I am referring to Artists performance sets 11 and 12
They are full songs with vocals, there is a free set in the free bonus pak and another in the 49 pak. Yes they sure do sound good and I find it a lot of fun using the mixer to try and get a good mix in biab.

I'd been planning to leave it, maybe, six month or so before updating.
But there are some excellent changes here, particularly the "all tracks the same", which, longer term at least, should make management of the software by PGM more consistent.
I shall though, still wait a little while before updating, to see howe the bug-fix rollouts go. Towards it's start, 2021 was rolling out patch versions more frequently than I was running the program. Hopefully this release will be better, though the first patch roll-out just three hours after release doesn't auger well just yet.

I think with a program that is this complex, and it is very complex, there are always going to be bugs. It is just the nature of the beast. No amount of testing will find them all. I have been coding for years and I am amazed at the things I screw up and don't find right away. I have no idea how many programmers work on this software but I am sure it is much much smaller than the "big boys" in this industry. To get a yearly release is good, to get one this year that includes a lot of new stuff is fantastic. I don't mind the patches. Even the worst issues have not made the program just not work at its base function. The patches are free, and if you are going to upgrade the special pricing usually ends at some point, so I say, save some money and get to work! Just me of course. Everybody is different and has their reasons, mine are not any better or worse than anyone else's I am sure. I am certainly not trying to offend.

That's true of just about any software, complex or otherwise. It's very likely that I'll upgrade before the offer expires, unless there's a mad stream of updates. I wrote my first computer program around 1970. I had to post the paper tapes away to be compiled and run. It didn't compile, but taught me an interesting lesson ... it didn't compile because I'd set variables to initial values, as of course I should. The problem was that, whilst the compiler accepted positive numbers without a preceding "+", it would not accept just a plain zero with no sign, it had to be +0 or -0. Oh! Right. Okaaay. :-)

Indeed. And I'll be doing so (much to my own surprise). I normally wait with most software, at least until the initial dust has settled. I do actually have a complete mirror of the whole installation on a USB hard drive, so if I get disillusioned or irritated, I should be able revert and try again later, or indeed even run the two versions side-by-side.

I've found the Multiriff feature is more versatile both to your understanding and the explanations posted.
First. Yes, one can choose the best part of a particular solo to retain and then regenerate all the parts that need to be improved.
Second. In the PG Music Multiriff tutorial, Tobin demonstrates generating the entire melody instrument by comping 4 bar sections at a time.
Third. Multiriffs allow the user to select different instruments to play sections of a track.
Fourth. Multiriffs work with any RealTrack and not just for creating solos. Rhythm instruments, fills and drums can be generated/regenerated using Multiriffs.
