Do you always use Apple control board to control BIAB? Feel convenient, more convenient than the mouse? However, I am a win10 system. I saw a video explaining that installing a driver can achieve the same effect as apple. I don't know if there are any friends who use it like this. Can you give me some suggestions.
Carpal tunnel is another possibility. Try the other types of pointing devices to see what works best for you. And consider changing among them to reduce the stress from any one device., since you can have more than one pointing device plugged in. I even sometimes switch position and use my left hand.

One well known trick in the orthopedic community for shoulder pain, when using a mouse, is to lower the mousing surface into/onto your lap. This will make a huge difference in not having to forward elevate your shoulder and take the stress off your rotator cuff and associated irritated tissues.
Also as for "carpal tunnel", this has always been a hypothesis as to being caused by computing, but good experimental research has finally put this idea to rest (as in not supported as causative), but the belief is so firmly embedded in the culture now that it is hard to extinguish and manufacturers continue to place warnings on their products to avoid liability. Interesting intersection between yet to be proven initial hypotheses, experimental medical research, modern culture and the legal system.
We could have a good discussion on ergonomics. It's been over twenty years since I slipped a mention of it into each of my computer classes. It's been almost as long since I remember discussion of it on these forums.
I am very interested in being updated on the carpal tunnel issue, so thanks. My doctor was quite sure when I came in after writing parts for symphony orchestra for one of my concerts. That was a ton of close mouse work in a concentrated time. As a result, I'm pretty good now switching off with my left hand. I also tried everything: trackball, Wacom tablet, different shaped mice, wrist pads etc. Now, I'm back to just using a regular Razer wired laser mouse.
ps to the OP, swingbabymix: I assume you are considering what is called an Apple Magic Trackpad, the device in your picture. "Apple control board" is something else entirely. I've read that the newest Apple Magic Trackpad works in Windows 10 but I assume some operations involving multi-finger swipe, touch and pressure might not be supported unless you connect it to an Apple machine. Even then, I saw a mention of third-party software that will emulate those actions. But as a straight mouse substitute for BIAB, it should work.

No problem Matt. The main risk factors for the development of carpal tunnel syndrome are age, female sex, increased weight (BMI - Body Mass Index) and a square wrist ratio (height/width). Night time symptoms are explained by total body water shift while in the lying down position during sleep with resultant increased carpal tunnel pressure. There are some few cases where "use" can be correlated with carpal tunnel syndrome but they are rare and usually quite traumatic such as high impact, fracture malposition, post surgery with increased pressure, and swelling, massive vibration exposure and the like. In the history of medicine this topic has been very interesting due to massive acceptance of an unproven hypothesis (a doctor said "I think...") and established causal theories that are not supported by scientific research. There are many such examples in medicine. The cholesterol hypothesis comes to mind, but that story is very complicated.
OBTW Matt, heavy use can certainly exacerbate a tendency for carpal tunnel syndrome and make one uncomfortable with out the "use" being the causative mechanism for the underlying syndrome. You're not crazy and I am sure you were uncomfortable.
Luckily there is no risk using BIAB. LOL!! Now back to our scheduled programming. Gosh I hope I didn't bore the pants off everybody....
I had a selection of mice, including a "penguin", trackballs, tablets and I used a wrist splint. I could also use any of those with either hand, thou my dominant hand was, of course, quicker but painful.
I had a technical writer friend whose solution was to push the keyboard away, use the mouse dead centra, rather than off to the side, then push the mouse away and pull back the keyboard. That works well if one mostly uses keyboard short-cuts.
Keyboard short-cuts are great once on gets familiar with them, but unfortunately some software just doesn't use them :-(
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11 BIAB2026 Audiophile, a bunch of other software. Kawai MP6, Ui24R, Focusrite Saffire Pro40 and Scarletts .
I didn't spend money today, but I solved the problem. I am using an old MacBook Air control board and keyboard to control my PC win10 One set of keyboard to control 2 computers Very comfortable
