Recently I've run into a number (more than 1) Real Drum Styles that seem to have an overly loud cymbal crash. Drummer is chugging along at a nice volume, easy to mix, then up comes a little roll and K_BAM!. Flaming nails to the ears

My mitigation efforts to date:
EQ the high end. So so results, Reduces the sizzle but ends up with a bit of the drums in a closet effect.
Automation (Volume) around the crashes.- This works but tedious
I've tried the 2 in concert. Its just a lot of work

Currently I'm doing a song with _Cuppajoe.sty
with RealDrums JazzSwingDannyBrushes
Attached is the waveform showing some of the obvious cymbal crashes

I suppose I could get the midi drums from BIAB and work with that.
I'm not in a hurry to abandon Real Drums nor spend a lot of time in the midi world.

Has anyone else experience similar?
what workaround(s) did you find?

I do like Real Drums and hope to continue to use them in my track building

There are some things that can be done, but until all the RealDrums have drum stems, they take some surgical editing. You can actually edit the levels of the raw sounds in the audio files once you identify them.

The irony here is that I’ve played with Danny Gottlieb in concert, and he has what most of us consider the finest cymbal roll in the jazz world. He is a supremely tasteful player. Since you can identify some specific places where his RealDrums aren’t tasteful levels, freeze the BIAB song and email it to support@pgmusic.com

PM me too, for my email address; I would like to load your song and see what I hear.

Thanks Matt Finley.

Volume automation is effectively my approach to non-destructive editing.

Agreed, the real solution is stems.

We need stems...

As a former stoner in the seventies I never thought I'd say that.

I know each RD has a file that you can use for samples for each hit (they are at the end of the file) -- I do that on every production to double snares, cymbals, kicks, etc for more control. Are you saying that if I for example reduced the gain of the cymbal in that file then that would affect how the respective RD generates and plays?

Thanks,

Bud

The old BFD drum freebie version had that issue with MIDI input. It’s like there was only a single mapping and there was only a single sample.

I know you said this was a real track. Just hear to say I feel your part n and I solved it at the time the same way you did
