I am getting this message when I try to "merge audio and DXI tracks into a wave file"

"Access violation at address 008120DE in module "RealBand.exe". Read address of 076A0000 at 008120DE.

It only does it on one song. I have no problem merging into a wav file on any other songs I have worked on.

2009.5 with all the patches. Does it on two different computers. The song file is on an external drive.

Any ideas?

Do you normally run RB from an external drive? If not, try loading the song onto your hard drive and run it from there and see if that makes a difference.

Two suggestions-
use 'save as' and save the file under a different name (I have had this fix a file if the problem was physical on the disk I believe)

Use 'File-open backup' to open a backup of the file that RB keeps for you ..

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I have tried saving it to an internal disc to a different name. That didn't work. As far as the back up files go, I can find nothing in the back files at all.

LBL,

When you said you "tried saving it to an internal disk but that didn't work", did you do this through RB or as a copy/paste? Furthermore, by "...didn't work" did you mean that you couldn't save it or that you saved it and when you opened it, the problem was still there?

If this was me, I'd try to methodically isolate what might be causing the problem.
  • I'd open RB and close every other sound application (including Media Player or equivalent) so that RB has the spotlight undeniably.
  • Then I'd open the song and check what settings are in RB just to confirm that everything is as it should be.
  • I'd also check the plug-ins on each of the tracks. There could be something lurking that I'd forgotten about.
  • I'd also set the audio driver to MME (of WDM if you have XP) rather than ASIO to make RB a little more Windows friendly.

Next,
  • I would remove top track (Track >> Remove track).
  • Save it as a new file on my internal hard drive, restart RB, open the newly created file, see if I could do a merge to wav.

If I still got the error,
  • I'd open the original file, delete the next track down and repeat the process of save (overwrite the previous file that didn't work), restart RB, etc.
  • I'd do this until I'd progressively removed each track, in turn, and confirmed that it wasn't responsible for the problem. It's possible there is a single track causing the problem.

If the above gave me no success, then I'd look at removing all midi files and repeat the above: save, restart, etc. Lastly, I'd repeat the process after removing all Realxxx files.

If none of these worked, I'd hope that I originally created the file in BIAB and I'd open that and start the RB file from scratch.

If the song plays, this suggests that the file is not corrupt. The fact that all your other songs merge ok, suggests to me that there is some setting activated in this particular song that isn't present in your other songs (hence checking settings and plug-ins).

Some thoughts to play around with,
Noel

Thanks Noel, deleting the unused midi tracks did the trick.

Thanks for letting the forum know, Larry. Glad it worked out for you! Sometimes working through these solutions can be tedious, but I've found that by doing so, it helps to get a bit more of an edge on the both the software and the computer. It also adds the the toolbox of "things to try when the unexpected happens".
