There are more and more styles, and only relying on memory or searching will delay a lot of time. I don't know if it can import MP3, WAV audio file fragments, and then automatically find similar styles. This can greatly save time and be more accurate.
Automatic analysis of the tempo, the time signature, the rhytmic feel and the instrumentation of a song is, like automatic transcription of polyphonic material, a VERY serious challenge from a computational point of view. While this would be of course great, I'm afraid it's also a little bit unreasonable at the present time.
I agree with Cerio - this is more a vision than a reasonable request at this time. Therefore I'd recommend that you either explicitly declare such things as a vision or that you break down your idea into much smaller steps and then suggest only the next step on the path to your final goal.

Obviously the reference that comes to my mind is the EZDrummer and its Song creator part. Beautiful and already very high but just midi. Doing it in MP3 is everyone's favorite, but probably not currently feasible.
Also in EZBass one can drop an audio file e.g. MP3 and it will try to convert it to MIDI from which one then can try to extract the Bass, Guitar or Rythm which can be edited. The midi can then be used whitin EZBass to try an find a similar bass pattern or can dragged over to EZDrummer to try to find a similar drum pattern.
Fun to play with but I think they still have a lot of work to do on this. When playing the converted mido one can roughly hear what song it is supposed to be.

Right. Even using the various transcription tools, it's easy to see why analysing music by AI is so difficult. Look at those spectral plots and you're seeing what the software sees, and it's complex!
There are not just simple overtones on each instrument, but very often all kinds of sympathetic resonances or 'dirty' synth sounds to contend with. The software has to decide which overtone, sympathetic and 'dirty' tones relate to which instrument and which note. Our ears and brains understand what a violin or a saxophone sounds like. Software just sees a series of frequency peaks that may or may not relate to any particular instrument.
Identifying the tempo is relatively easy. Perhaps the general rhythmic 'feel' may not bee too hard, though polyrhythms would likely be a big challenge. Generating MIDI is (IMHO) usually far from convincing. Analysing the song for a style? Pretty darned tough, I think.

The Audio Chord Wizard, or ACW, can analyze an audio file and determine tempo, key signature and chord structure. However, it can not take the next step and suggest similar styles.
What you can presently do is import the tempo, chord sheet and key signature provided by the ACW and then use the Play Chord Sheet option in the StylePicker to review prospective styles.
I really must try ACW. It does sound as though it may be better than the average, which is a bit surprising for a bundled tool. Lots of people do use it.
I guess as much of the music I'm interested in is jazz, Latin, African, maybe I just over challenge them. Fancy chords must make things harder.
