I'm sure this question has been covered numerous times but I've not been able to find any threads on it. Maybe I'm just not looking with correct search terms. Anyway, I currently own BIAB 2021 including the megapack. All files are stored on my laptop, a total of 35gb in the \bb folder. I'm considering upgrading to the 2022 version with the Ultrapack. Trying to plan ahead, I'm thinking that I would like to have BIAB accessible on my desktop, which is a fairly recent Dell with a 25" 4k monitor.

OR, if I have ample hard disk space on both machines, should I load all files on each machine?

Does it make sense to store my files on an external or USB flash drive in order to move easily between the two computers?

Pros/cons?

Thanks!

LKEYS.
haveing done loads of daw installs/pc's over the years
heres my best recommends re your desktop...dell.
1. 2 internal fast ssd's...cos cheap.
eg 2 512 giggers.
2. one internal fast ssd for win and one ssd for real time recording daw/song creation.
3. use extrnal drive as purely added back ups.
4. keep recording pc off net.

if you doubt me do research on places like gearspace.com..

what is your cpu in dell ?

hnyear.
om

my songs....mixed for good earbuds...(fyi..my vocs on all songs..)

Well, here's how I roll ..
On laptop I use the PGMusic supplied USB drive to save the drive space used for Realtracks and Drums etc.

On desktop, I have a drive dedicated to be a copy of the PGMusic USB drive (faster and I have the drive slots, so why not? As OM mentioned, drives are pretty cheap).

To move a project between computers I use my internal network or a thumb drive (depending on the need).
BiaB files are pretty small, but Realband files can get pretty large.

Drive names below are pretty self explanatory.
I am lucky enough to be a beta tester, so my BB drive (E:) is fuller than it needs to be as I have yet to clean it up after beta this year. Plus I keep some older versions around for testing.

drives.jpg (34.68 KB, 53 downloads)

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Sure, you can use a flash drive to transfer song files between computers that have BIAB installed. You have three activations each year. In addition to flash drives, I also use a portable SSD drive with a USB connection.

I roll like Rharv..... I use the provided BIAB drive for the laptop and have a copy of it all on my PC for direct disk access.

I have no issue with the PC being on the internet. I just disconnect when I do a recording so there's less interruptions during that time. If you keep a machine off the internet it's harder to keep it up to date on Windows and music software patches.

Thanks gentlemen. I've ordered the ultrapak upgrade with hard drive and will probably do something like Rharv and Sslechta's configuration
