I find that the feature for manually entering notes in BiaB is very easy to use I get on well with. Unfortunately I am finding a great difficulty with some of the other features in this window.

1. The first issue for me is the ability to delete groups of notes. When a substantial part of a melody requires to be deleted I have do do this one note at a time and this process is very laborious. The manual mentions the 'deletion of playback notes in red' but I don't know what that means. All I want to do is select a group notes and do a simple DEL with the delete key.

2. As a workaround for the previous issue, I used 'Copy Special' to copy an appropriate range of 'empty' melody over the bars of notes I wanted to delete. This procedure works, so long as I ensure that the source bars each contain a whole rest. This is OK for me but I thought an empty bar would also be copied.

3. The manual covers the ability to enter notes using the 'M' key and then using the up/down key to change the pitch. This works as specified but 'N' is supposed to add a note a third above the the previous note but, in my case, this simply a complete new note and the previous note disappears.

Are these difficulties of my own making?

An easy way to delete notes is to hold down the Delete key while clicking on the notes. You can't delete highlighted notes like you describe in the regular notation window, however it is possible to do this in the 'Piano roll' window. In the notation window if you are step-advancing using INS and DEL, this will highlight the current notes in red, and Delete key will delete them.

Your description of N and M is backwards - 'N' inserts a note, and 'M' adds a note a third above. Maybe a typo somewhere..

Try the edit function.

If you want to delete all the notes in Bar1 to Bar 4 for instance,

click Edit (Alt-E) then erase from-to (alt-K)

specify the from bar and the number of bars

select what to erase (chords, melody, soloist, lyrics)

Click OK-Erase

works for me

Yes, I also prefer the Editable Notation Window, I find it more intuitive than piano roll note entry. PGMusic is the only software I have come across that has this method.

Re your 3rd point about the previous note disappearing, ensure that the Mono box is not checked. This will allow multiple notes, e.g. chords, to be entered.

If you do decide to go form the Editable Notation Window and try the Piano Roll instead, here's a great tutorial for it if you're not as familiar with it: https://youtu.be/7VnIIx3V4QY

Hi Andrew,
Excellent explanation. Thank you. Also great advice on the Piano Roll (which I think you told me about some time in the past in a different context).

Yes, my mistake. But using the 'N' to insert a note at the current time and then 'M' still just provides a new note a third above the previous, but the previous is now gone!

You got it for me Vintage, that's what was doing it. Andrew thinks he's dealing with someone whose read the manual properly. I so glad this forum isn't like the forums of the past. When I was learning the 'C' language. A 'stupid' question like that would earn you a short RTFM response!

Thank you.
