I would like to record my guitar to the audio or utility tracks in BIAB and hear the effect of VST plugins while I do that. Right now I can only hear the effect of the VST plugin on playback. In a DAW like Reaper I can just monitor the track and I hear the VST effects while I record. I can always export everything to Reaper or use the BIAB VST in Reaper but I was just hoping for a way to do it without leaving BIAB to build the song up. Once I have what I want then I would export to Reaper and do my final mixing / mastering.
I contacted support before posting this and they told me this is not possible in BIAB. If they are wrong then please direct me to instructions on how to do this or provide them.
PG Music Support is correct. It is not possible in Band-in-a-Box to hear what you are recording until the recording is completed.
A workaround is to use an audio interface that includes a blend, echo or loop back feature. You listen through the audio interface headphone jack instead of the computer audio output. The interface provides a mix of your incoming signal and the computer outgoing signal.
Otherwise, even simpler: if your plugin is possible in standalone you open it with the settings you want, the same as in Biab in fact, you leave it open, and when you record in Biab you will hear the same sound. I do this, it works very well. You have free NanoHost if your plugin is not standalone.
