Great delivery from start to finish. Your song-writing has always been quite excellent.
Classic lyrics, musically brilliant, breaks that just slot right in perfectly.

Like a lot here, I also think this is another good one from mr. Jane!
I can't recall hearing a bad song from your hand. All the instruments in this song also sound very crisp/bright, especially that snare drum. Wonderful!
The composition is rock-solid. and it's a great thing to notice that this song dates from 1980. You must have been born as a good songwriter and singer. That is the same time I fell in love with my wife. And I still sing the kind of lyrics you used here! And she loves my songs...

You may have been just a pup back in 1980, but you were writing like a seasoned veteran! Every single chorus you write is memorable and sticks like glue! Your vocal in this is as good or better than any of your work! The background vox are sitting so sweet in the mix that I had to mention it!

Thanks, Torrey Thanks for the terrific review, Torrey. Much appreciated... I really like this. To me it is interesting to hear what people did all the way in the beginning of their arc. If you had told me you wrote this yesterday I would have believed it. That is not to say it is too old or too young. But it is "characteristic." It is just very interesting to me that you have a knack for these "heart-tugging" hooks that seems to have been with you from the beginning, and you have a few similar themes that run through a lot of your work--at least to me. It is not exactly "redemption"--but more like "Hey, let's try to have a redemptive take on this situation, honey, since we don't have much to lose." Or something like that, I think.  Good one man. Thanks, David. As I listen to this, I hear "the old me"" as a "developing" writer (although a lot of who-I-am as a writer was beginning to form, there was more to come in the developing stage). Glad that it at least "still holds up".... You were probably born humming a brand new tune Floyd.
BIG band this time but it doesn't sound BIG in the overblown, overly busy sense.
The arrangement fits the tune like it ought.
Sweet melody, strong vocal delivery and another narrative that digs into the differences that bring/hold folk together. Thanks, ray. As I said earlier - when I have a long list of RTs, they are often used as pieces and parts - and seldom all happen at once... Thanks for your continuing support...

Well, you certainly know how to write a lyric. And a tune. And then arrange it. And mix it. Drums are fun to listen on this on. Nice builds. Everything fits nicely, including the piano bits. Catchy chorus. Vocals sound excellent. I like the mandolin on the intro - it announces the song as Country. The interplay between the piano and drums is cool - the arrangement has a very "open" sound. Fun song! What size is the artwork? It looks like a close-up on brushstrokes. Very cool. David - thanks for the fine review. Although, I generally expect that you will at least point out ONE thing that doesn't work for you (and I always appreciate that!!). You do a good job of "making me think". The art work is a cropping from a larger piece. The original piece is roughly 4' x 2.5'. The crop here is roughly a 18 square from that. I've used up most of the full paintings for other "album covers". They are typically 5' x 4'. And many of them (like this one) are done without brushes. They are done using watered down acrylics and a lot of movement of the canvas (sometimes stretched first, sometimes not). So there are no brush strokes... Hello Floyd

Dated? No, not at all. A good tune is never so, IMHO, and this one is just that. Production sounds good—really like that guitar solo, gives an edge to this that takes it another level. Outstanding work!

1980! I was a lot younger then too  That was the year my daughter was born actually. The chorus really struck home

It reminded me of the days I was dating my wife! She has a terrible life when she was a teenager, but I digress.

Well, Janice was a Billy Joel fan and she could hear the influence and thought it was a good thing too. To paraphrase Ray we think you were born singing an excellent song that you had written! Everything about this is excellent - the write, vocals, band, arrangement and mix. The piano and the mandolin were especially good. "she's so much woman she can stand on her own but i'm always there when she falls" This really says a lot about her and him. We like it. And, not to forget, your artwork is very nice indeed. Wow, you've been this good for over forty years, that's saying something. You know it's the lyrics I go for and this has some choice nuggets in it. I had just finished playing twenty games at wordle unlimited before listening to this, and this was more fun. As so many users here say, thanks for your presence on the forum. You're the guiding light. Thanks, TM! 20 games of Wordle? Once a day is enough for me (hoping they keep that once in front of the pay wall...) FJ, Sounds awesome! Wonderful write and revival. You put a lot of emotion and musical thought in it. While it has some B.Joel flavor, sounds very original. Strong vocals. Mix is very crisp. So far this is your best tune of 2022 to my taste.
