https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/fake-windows-11-installer-coming-after-passwords-credit-cards-and-crypto-wallets/ar-AATMfjr?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531

The concept of spoofed sites has been talked about before but this is worth it's own thread in order to call attention to it.

How many people want to install Win 11 using unsupported hardware? All I can say is I wouldn't try it if it's not available using Microsoft's usual procedure and I've written about that before but holy crap it never occurred to me that something like this was lurking out there. If anything to do with your PC's OS is not official, forget it.

No more dangerous than sideloading Google play store into a kindle fire, and probably even safer than doing that.

You download the official iso image of windows 11 from Official Microsoft site, then use a well known software called Rufus to bypass the unsupported hardware code.

Works great here on a 12 year old pc.

"How many people want to install Win 11 using unsupported hardware?"

Of course I installed it on a laptop from 2009, just for testing purposes. Why not?
I've never had issues with malware, I know what I'm doing.

Thanks for the heads-up Bob,

I really don't want to install it at all, but at one future point in time, I will.

By waiting until a few updates have patched the code, I can avoid potential problems that MS discovered after the 'real world' has been saturated.

And if MS doesn't give me the 'upgrade' in the normal update procedure, I'm perfectly happy with Win10 until I have to replace the computer with a new one.

Just a Win 11 report. I installed it on one of my new systems using software from Microsoft. I did have to turn on one piece of software in the BIOS based on checking if my computer met the requirements.

Win 11 was installed without issue in less than thirty minutes. It has been running for a couple of weeks without issue.

Removing Bing was a PITB, requiring making registry changes. The issue I am having with Edge and Chrome did not resolve with the new OS.

No issues with the audio interface or flight simulator controls.

Some things are not in the same place or displayed the same way but little has changed that is obvious. One or two short updates that only took a few minutes.

It looks like I will have to do a clean install to resolve all issues at some point. I also need bigger drives to deal with all the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. Fun game with excellent visuals but is not realistic if you are a commercial pilot. Perhaps some minor value to a student pilot with some input from a flight instructor.

So now I have a computer running on Win 7, Win 10, And Win 11. Not really much difference between the three. Lots of USB backup drives. BIAB 2018, 2020, and 2022.

Final word, "just stuff" nothing to write home about.

Probably more than 'just stuff' to many. I think your contribution is essentially quite valuable.

If someone is running windows 10 without any problems, I think 11 will run just as well, even if its unsupported hardware.

Its easy enough to download the official 11 iso from microsoft, then download Rufus, insert a 8gb USB drive, open Rufus point it towards the windows 11 iso on your pc, it will copy all the windows 11 setup files to your usb pen drive, and insert the code for unsupported hardware.

Do a clean install from boot up from the USB drive, job done.

^^^This! Exactly! We've had many Win 11 upgrade posts since it came out in October. At this point it's been patched enough that most hardware should run fine with it.

I had posted in another thread about some strange things my no longer current system was doing so I just bought a custom built Ryzen 7 5800 system with Win 11 installed. I had no problem at all figuring out Win 11 and everything I use works fine on it. So far, at least...

if you get a chance i would love to know the metrics on your ryzen.
eg..
1. boot time from cold into win 11 screen.
2. time to boot into biab. biab here on an older
i5 win 10 with new 2022 version is fast.few secs max.
3. no of tracks max reported by realband.
just a rough idea.

plus anything else you can think of.

Also does it incorporate a SSD? That part will make a HUGE difference to both startup time and operations.

Can't do any timing tests until next week but the specs are 16 gigs ram, 500 gig NVMe SSD.
