Curious on everyone's opinion of it here.
I'm pretty new...every time i try to get back into using B.I.A.B. life gets in the way. Thought this would be good for discussion...I thought it was better this year than last with The Weekend but still wasn't my cup of tea. Wonder if there will ever be a superbowl show as good as what Prince did all those years ago.

Problem is - music is rather subjective. I like Johnny Cash, Eminem, Johann Strauss, Bach, etc. I am also on the board of an orchestra.
Would have the fans supported a string quartet for the Halftime show? Probably not. And no matter who they chose for the Halftime show someone would not have been happy.
I believe it was a long time coming - it should have happened sooner. Hip Hop has been around long enough that some performers have been accepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. It is not going away. Like it or not it is a music genre.

I haven't watched TV at all in decades - zero - nada - zilch. Unhooked the cable, took down the antenna mast, and never got a digital converter. (Obviously, I'm weird.) So I didn't see the show.
If you ask me, they should bring back marching bands in the halftime show.
But then I don't watch TV so what I think about TV doesn't matter.

Article has some surprisingly positive remarks about compression, which you kind of need lots of if you’re a string trio playing a stadium. Anyway, think I’ll jump in and mention that I, too, didn’t watch the game. I do hope this thread isn’t just an attempt to troll up cultural grievances.

I did not watch the game for 2 reasons.
Number 1: It just did not interest me. I remember how the beginning super-bowls were played and they are just not the same. Seems to be just a bunch of hype.
Number 2: I am in the same boat as Notes Norton, I cut the cable years ago and never looked back.

To each their own. I didn't watch the game. I'm not interested in sports. Period.
I did watch the halftime show the next day on YouTube. I wasn't impressed. Reckon it was because I'm not a fan of the genre.

I just turned 40 - so I'm in the age range that the halftime show was targeted to, I'd say.
I loved it from a nostalgia angle, although it's definitely not the type of music I listen to now!
Performances weren't perfect, but they weren't terrible either. These seasoned performers looked comfortable on stage, and just seemed to be having fun out there.

I watched and at first had no idea who anyone was, except for SnoopDog - he is everywhere. But then when I heard their names I recognized them all. So Ya, these folks are all major names. Was a bit dissappointed to see the lip synching. I know it may be common for a big event, but at least they should try to fake it.

Lip-synching in the Superbowl halftime is now normal. There is too much at risk if something happens. Same for pretending to play instruments over the pre-recorded track. I haven't watched TV in decades - nada - zilch - zero. So I went to UTube to see what the fuss was about and watched it.
The following is not a criticism, but merely an observation from my personal point of view.
To me, it was boring. Rap is like a drum solo, a little in the middle of a song that also contains rhythm, harmony AND melody is nice, but an entire song of a drum solo (or Rap) loses my attention span in about 30 seconds. But then, the words to a song have always been the last thing I listen to. First the music, the groove, the part each instrument is playing, how they work with each other to create the song, how they compliment the melody (or not), what can I learn to do, what can I learn not to do, and so on. Then when I've digested all the music, I might listen to the words, until then, the words are simply articulation of the melody with no actual meaning. Even with some of my favorite songs, I still don't know all the words. So rap music isn't for me, it's for someone else's ears. OK, I'm weird, but I'm happy that way. Personally, I'd rather see a marching band in the halftime show. Invite a college with a good marching band, perhaps do marching bands all season, and the band with the most points gets to march in the bow. But then, since I don't watch TV at all, they certainly shouldn't cater to me.  Insights and incites by Notes
