Virtually every windows program ever written that I know of, CTRL A is the universal command to select everything. CTRL C is to copy what has been selected to the clipboard and CTRL V is to past everything copied to the clipboard.
Even the MAC uses the equivalent keystrokes of CMD A, CMD C and CMD V to accomplish the same thing.
The only program that does not do this for CTRL A, as far as I know of, is BIAB. Why they don't follow the established command structure of the Windows OS, I have never, ever figured out.
That is going back decades that BIAB uses CTRL A to start playing a song.

......I've also noticed that if I drag across the chord sheet to select the chords and then press CTRL+C, the song is copied to the clipboard.
Yes, I have used that myself, however if the chord sheet is longer than than the view, it doesn't work as BIAB does not auto-scroll down as you are click-drag, so you miss what is below the current chord layout.

Reserving CTRL+A for playback is silly, since the space bar already does this. I agree, every other program uses CTRL+A to select all in whatever screen is active, and BiaB programmers should conform with the norm in this instance. .. or at least offer a right-click option to select all ..

According to this list, ctrl+A is "Play song with no generation".
The spacebar can be programmed to do a couple of different options, which you can find under Options | Preferences.
While it's not a command specifically, you can go to Edit | Copy Special | Copy From ... To if you want specific regions, or you can go to Edit | Copy and the content will be copied to your clipboard (you can also do this via CTRL+C to copy; you should see a yellow flash message that comes up saying song copied to clipboard as text if successful).
