This is a co-write with my brother, Brian Williams. Years ago he promised a pastor we'd write a song for Mother's Day, but forgot about it until the night before. We got together at the last minute and ripped off a melody I was using to work on a different song. Didn't know where to start, so we just began spoutin' off memories of Mama and this is what we got. Since Mother's Day is right around the corner again, I thought I'd record it. Here 'Tis...

Mamas Love

Teddy bears and lacy things, nursery rhymes and lullabies to sing.
Go ahead and play on the swing, but be careful now, not too high.
And roller skates coming down the sidewalk, finger paints and playing hopscotch.
Take a look at the lizard you caught, but no he can’t come inside.

Bedtime prayers down on our knees, Mama taught us faith through her belief,
and she picked me up back when I couldn’t reach.
Mama made us go to bed too soon, oh, but sometimes she let us lick the spoon
with a kiss and a hug, ‘cause that’s a mamas’ love.

Now Mama dropped her off a block away, when Sis got too old to kiss her anyway.
She tried to hide the look on her face and held back the tears.
‘Cause pig tails were for little girls and sis was ready now for beauticians’ curls,
painted nails and costume pearls, and she pierced her ears.

Mama always seemed to know when to hold us and when to let go,
and she knew how it felt to worry at night.
Saying her prayers ‘til I got home. Making sure the front porch light was on,
‘cause these are the labors of a mamas love.

Now Mother Goose is read from Grandma’s lap, where my children take their naps,
but I still remember back …

When Mama stayed up late ‘cause I was sick from too much ice cream and chocolate chips,
and the only cure back then was Mama’s kiss.
And Mama washed the crayon off the wall, and she got me my first bat and ball.
It’s a gift from God above, a Mamas love. Oh, it’s a gift from God above, my Mamas love.
Mamas’ love. My Mamas’ love. Mamas’ love.

Once again, everything on here except the vocals is a BiaB track. I boosted the high end of the acoustic guitar to try to keep it from sounding too much in the mid range, but not sure if it's enough. I'm also trying the stereo effects, but not sure if I'm going wide enough. The Biab Tracks are:

Drums: ALLISF1.STY, Brian Fullen
Bass: ALLISF1.STY, Dow Tomlin
Rhythm Guitar & Finger Pick Guitar : ALLISF1.STY, Jason Roller
Fiddle: ALLISF1.STY, Wanda Vick
Lead Guitar: NYGEORG.STY, Brent Mason

All thoughts are welcome.

Brad,

You have certainly stepped up your game!

A really well-written song. Start to finish.

Your use of BIAB here is good.
A nice balance of instruments.
Nice job with getting the fills to be supportive (and not in-the-way).

A heartfelt vocal.
A good mix.

Really Well Done.

Wow, what a wonderful song for two brothers to write. That close harmony gives the perfect touch for Mama's Love. Everything about this is so good, Brad & Brian. I'm so glad to have memories like those you mention, and so happy to hear this terrific tune you wrote. Magical and memorable, just like its namesake.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks to all of you for the comments, but especially thanks for the help in teaching to reach a better mix. It's a challenge! Played the song for Ma on mothers day and she liked it a lot - so thanks from her too!
