Latest BIAB 2022 with latest VST crashing Cubase Pro 12, not working correctly in Studio One 5, Bitwig Studio 4, FL Studio, I have save a song in BIAB 2022 Standalone I am not able to load it in plugin, also unable to create any new song song in plugin see the video for loading song issue, I am not getting any error it either crashes and closes my Cubase 12 or nothing happens
Wish I had an answer for you. I am a Reaper Guy and am not having this issue. But all I got is questions. All which may be totally unrelated.
Why is the video so blurry? I really wanted to read each detail and that is not possible? There are wonderful free high res video screen capture apps available. Why do I hear what sounds like a click track at the onset of the video? Is something else running audio? Do you have the most recent version of the BIAB-VST (that is one of those things which is too blurry to read). You say you do but I wanted to verify. I think you are showing us that the .mgx songs files already exist on your computer. Are they present in a place the VST is looking? Check your preference setup. Or can you start a new file in the VST without crash?
BTW, I spent about 8 hours today composing and arranging using the BIAB-VST in Reaper. All worked like a charm. I am really happy with the days outcome. So the VST can have a good day.
made another video focused on VST in Studio One 5, song created in BIAB 2022 stand alone saved, trying to load in VST nothing happens, trying to create a new style from scratch nothing happens and yes I have already tried downloading and reinstalling the latest updates, I have already tried all the usual steps, updated my video/ audio drivers, my Windows and DAWs are up to date and I am not having any issues with my other VST plugins, standalone BIAB works fine and I have been using DAWs and VSt's for more than 10 years.
In other posts the developer, Adar, mentioned one thing a user can do that will provide him with information that will help him identify and fix a crash issue is to collect some logs.
Make a blank text file with notepad.exe. Label the blank file PreserveAllFiles.txt and put it in the BBPlugin directory; for example X:\bb\BBPlugin\PreserveAllFiles.txt where X is the drive letter where Band-in-a-Box is stored. The blank file instructs the plugin to log all temporary input-output files. The created log files are stored in the X:\bb\BBPlugin sub folder and are labeled: BBoutput.txt, RBResults.txt, BBInput.txt and BBSong.txt.
Another log file that is helpful is stored at X:\bb\Data\bbw4_64exe_FlashMessageLog.txt. The flash message log reports every displayed pop up, or flash, message.
Finally, X:\bb\Data\bbw4_PlugInLog.txt is the log file that reports communication errors between the plugin and Band-in-a-Box. When you use the plugin the plugin uses Band-in-a-Box to generate all the audio files.
If you have issues with the BBPlugin crashing or not working right it's worth trying in Element as it seems to have better error handling. Just click the EXT button top left so it syncs with the DAW playback then hook up the outputs and input if needed.
Thanks for the feedback Navid! In the first video you posted, I noticed that you have 2 running instances of the Band-in-a-Box Plugin. While doing so should not cause a crash, it is something that we do not officially support doing and may result in unintended behaviour. I will try to replicate that scenario and fix the crash if it occurs.
The second video you sent shows clearly that the plugin is not retrieving the information sent from bbw4 (Style Picker, etc.) so I will also investigate this issue.
In the meantime, I would try a full reboot of your computer. There could be an open instance of bbw4 which is causing issues when you try to use the plugin. Rebooting the computer would be the easiest way to rule out this issue, but if you do not want to reboot, then the other option would be to open the Task Manager and kill bbw4 if it is running.
I would also recommend checking that the folder locations in the plugin are correctly set. Simply open the Preferences dialog in the plugin and click on the "Folder Locations" tab to see where the plugin is looking for Band-in-a-Box. We just had an issue in the Mac version where the folder paths looked correct but were going through the '/Volumes/' directory which is a read only folder. You should also ensure that you have the correct privileges for your Band-in-a-Box folder, to read and write.
Please follow the instructions posted by Jim to create a file called "PreserveAllFiles.txt" in your "/bb/BBPlugin/" folder. Afterwards, you can use the plugin and when it fails to open your song, navigate to /bb/BBPlugin/SavedTracks/ and send me copies of the bbinput.txt, bboutput.txt and bbsong.txt files. These files are written by bbw4 and read by the plugin.
The last thing you can do is create a file called "BBPluginDebug.txt" and place it in "C:\Users\Public\Ticket\". If this file is present in that folder, the plugin will log each action it takes to that file. Once the file exists, you can use the plugin and when it fails, send me a copy of "C:\Users\Public\Ticket\BBPluginLog.txt".
Also, please send me a copy of the song you are trying to open so that I may take a closer look at what is going. My email is aguy@pgmusic.com.
thank you for the help, I followed the instructions and rebooted/ reinstalled, made sure the locations are correct it seems to be ok for now, I will report back if any issues.

Dare I suggest you try Reaper? I can testify that it works in Reaper!
In my case the VST Plugin crashes in Cubase 12, with or without Element, so I tried a demo of Studio One and exactly the same thing: it just closes down the plugin and gives a long list report. Must be something in my Windows system if it crashes in both programs. I'd love to try it in Cubase 12, because I remember it working in earlier versions of Cubase
