I don't know what I did, but now suddenly the melody track is muted in the middle chorus -- or choruses, if I have, say four or more. I didn't change anything that I know of, except, well, I was experimenting some with the Soloist and it does have a selection of which choruses to solo in, but I left them at the default, where it DOES solo in the middle chorus. And besides, none of these tunes have a Soloist track active. The only other thing I did was select a Real Track solo for a couple of tunes, but in these tunes, the RT solo ran for the entire tune, not just the beginning and end. Besides, when you go with an RT soloist, there's nothing to specify which chorus the solo will occur.
So anyway, like I said, I don't know what I did to cause my middle choruses to shut up, but I'd sure like to figure out how to un-shut them up. Got any ideas where I should look?
In Band-in-a-Box, click | Melody | along the top of the window and be sure that | Mute Melody during Middle choruses | does not have a check next to it.
Hey Jerry, thanks for your prompt reply. Unfortunately, there is no check next to "Mute Melody during Middle choruses."
But then I got this idea. I checked on that box, then played back a middle chorus, and sure enough, the melody wasn't playing. So then I went and unchecked it. And the middle chorus melody played! Just to make sure this verklempt thing was healed, I tried it out with a couple other songs, and now they're playing their middle choruses too, when just a little while before they weren't.
So there must have been some sort of phantom check that got set for that command -- an invisible one, I suppose. Well, I don't plan on getting anywhere near that command in the future. Hopefully, things will stay fixed.
Dang it, I spoke too soon. The tune where this problem originally occurred still won't play the middle choros. I tried doing what I did above to get it unstuck, but this time, it didn't work. So, while now my other tunes are behaving normally -- I hope -- this one that originally displayed the problem still has it.
Aha! I found the solution . . . but I don't know what caused the problem. I knew there was a problem with the melody in the middle chorus because I was watching the staff view. There were notes being displayed but there was no sound. Well, just now I got the bright idea to check on the note values -- you know, where you click on the button that has a note with a right angle through it? So after clicking on this button, I saw the problem. The notes were displayed and they were showing their velocities, but all of them had zero time values. I mean like 0,0. Weird. I've never encountered this before. It's a hassle to have to go back in and assign values, but it could be worse, I suppose.
