Windows 10 (64bit) M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Band in a Box 2025, Cubase 14, Cakewalk and far too many VST plugins that I probably don't need or will ever use
I’ve always wondered if any guitars were harmed in the filming of that video.
Well, at least it couldn't have been this bad
Additionally, I do not support this destruction. How many young people could have been given creative opportunities if they had been donated to music schools and more?

Since then I have researched and found this statement:
Quote:
“The Firebird X destruction video that surfaced months ago was an isolated batch of Firebird X models built in 2009-2011 which were unsalvageable and damaged with unsafe components. This isolated group of Firebird X models were unable to be donated for any purpose and were destroyed accordingly.”
Frankly, that destruction didn't need to be promulgated on media such as YouTube. The removal of a faulty product could have been handled more sensitively. (Anyway, most things are actually salvageable - just put a bit of effort into it)

The last time I had to fly with my instruments, I shipped them FedEx closest to the airport that I would be landing at, with a "Hold for pickup" message.
Got off the plane, drove the rental car to FedEx and picked up my guitar and sax in perfect condition.
They were shipped in flight cases, inside a cardboard shipping box with some padding inside.

I agree but that may have been a government requirement so they could claim the loss on their income tax. When I was working our company replaced all their computers and monitors with new ones. The old ones were in perfect working order but the company could not give or sell them if they wanted to get the tax break, thus they were all destroyed.
Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer. It's called the Heineken Maneuver.

Some guitarists print the FAA Rules on allowing instruments in the cabin as long as they fit in the overhead bin, which most, not all, but most guitars in their case do. Others buy a 2nd seat, although at today's prices not for the faint of heart.
The FAA does have a rule: The rule requires that each U.S. carrier subject to this regulation allow a passenger to carry into the cabin and stow a small musical instrument, such as a violin or a guitar, in a suitable baggage compartment, such as the overhead bin or a closet, or under the seats, in accordance with FAA safety regulations and the carrier’s FAA-approved carry-on baggage program.
Back in 2005 and 2008 I went to Argentina for a few weeks. A friend of mine, the leader on this trip, knowing I played guitar, and knowing we'd be doing ministry events in various places, asked me to be sure to bring my guitar. My response to him was....I'm pretty sure they have guitars in Argentina and I will be able to borrow one for the few times I will need it.
That assumption was absolutely correct. I got to meet a number of really nice musicians and they all were willing to let me use their guitars and amps at the events.
This is a link to the video of those weeks in Argentina. I have to use Explorer to get it to play.....
I'm sure it must have been a great experience Herb. I tried both Firefox and Chrome but had no luck. I guess it needs an older codec to play the files.
Great idea to borrow a fellow musicians guitar. I wouldn't put a grand piano into my checked-in luggage either <wink>

From what I understand, none. The guy who represented Gibson as their official witness to the destruction said that the technology of the Firebird X rendered them completely immune to being repurposed. According to him, the guitar was not something that you could operate independent of a computer running Windows 98. The guitar apparently had some common characteristics with the Variaxe in that it could be electronically retuned, detuned, and morphed into different instruments, but did it all through Microsoft based software and could not be simply plugged into an amplifier.

That's what you call "relicing" and it simply increases the value of the guitar..... A few nicks and dings and waaa laaa, the price increases.
Yeah... I get the whole reason why they did this but I think it would have been more satisfying to see a woodchipper used..... or a flame thrower.
