Often on a hold or a shot the bass won’t play on the down beat. Rarely do instruments sustain properly. I feel like I have a bad setting because I never see anyone discussing this, but I’ve had this problem for years on each version of the program that I’ve updated
Karnak, I'm by no means an expert but have you tried to reset to factory settings as a first step?
https://soundcloud.com/user-646279677 BiaB 2026 Windows For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Are you able to suggest one of more styles where this occurs? If so, others could undertake some testing.
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
True- the missing (or faint) bass on the downbeat is glaring at any tempo though. Particularly in that setting (typically being accented on a hold). It seems like something everyone else would notice too, if theirs was acting like that, must just be my setup. Not sure why still. Returned to factory settings doesnt help. PG music chat support said try reinstalling holds and shots separately-that they should show as a separate install on the MyProducts page…. Of course I can’t find them anywhere. Guess im back to patching, pasting and stretching in a DAW for a finished product. Thanks though.
What Style are you currently using? Also, What is your current version and build of Band-in-a-Box? Please open Band-in-a-Box and click | Help | About Band-in-a-Box |. Here you will find the version and build in this format: Version 20## (###).

I did ask what Style the O/P was using so that others could test / verify, but never received a definitive response. There was a suggestion that it happened on any style, which I find slightly unusual.

Hi Jerry and guys- thanks for the help. Sorry I’m just getting back on the forum. I’m using biab2022 (923) And the current style is _Engine4 (train beat…) But this problem usually happens - rarely do the bass and drums hit the downbeat of a hold or shot. They seem to prepare to with a fill etc then,be blank (,or super low velocity) on the downbeat with most, if not all, Realtracks. (Sometimes the other instruments seem to sound). Turns out a couple of my buddies, also pro musicians, have always had the same trouble, we’ve all been just sucking that up and fixing in a DAW with pastes and editing. I was advised on pgm Chat to reinstall the shots and holds which I just did, but to no avail. I’m really surprised this isn’t a more common syndrome that had been addressed a lot. Hoping there’s a key we haven’t found that unlocks it. Thanks again.
I loaded the _ENGINE4.STY style demo from the StyePicker and put a hold on bar 5 and shot on bar 9. You can listen to the audio I rendered (links below) and see if it sounds like what you hear when you do the same. This might help narrow the problem down.
Definitely not having the problem with yours! - what is playing is exactly what I’d expect to hear - is it possible for me to post a recording here for you to listen to ? (Mix to mp3 or something? I don’t really see how to attach it here… sorry, I’m a newbie to the forum. Danke!

I don't think you can attach audio files any longer. If you have a SoundCloud or DropBox account you could upload to there and then attach the link using this button.

Yes, please link to a rendered audio file. You can render an .m4a like I did by clicking on the .WAV button in the File panel of the toolbar and selecting Quick export...
You can use Dropbox / Google drive or any other cloud/storage service and just paste in the link. But also, try doing exactly what I did using the demo song and see if it sounds the same. This is just to confirm that it isn't specific to one of your song files.

Andrew, Well sure enough when I loaded up the demo and put the holds in that song they worked fine, like in yours- also when I retyped my song with the same entries it seemed fine. So now I’m stumped as to what was different about the earlier entries! They appeared the same (but possibly had been done on an earlier version of biab
Oh my. Could it have been that you prepared these on an older version (prior to updating many of the shot/hold files) and then never regenerated? If that was the case each track would continue to use the old files.
Hmm, can you show us a file that has the problem? If you can't post a link, you could email as attachment to support@pgmusic.com and refer to this forum thread.
-Band-in-a-Box song file (ideally with the tracks frozen). -And if possible, a rendered audio file (e.g. m4a) of the song.
