So as of the last update (2022, 923), for me, BIAB has stopped openning by default on my second screen, which is how I had things set up. It opens half-collapsed on my primary monitor and I have to drag it over to the second screen and expand it every time. It didn't used to do this. Also, once it's in place on the second screen, it will NOT allow anything to open on top of it. So when I render out tracks, the window it opens with those rendered tracks opens BEHIND the BIAB folder and you can't ALT+TAB to get the window in front. You have to actually minimize BIAB to see anything that is behind the program. This is also a new development.
Is there a way to fix this? So it will open by default, expanded, on the second monitor, and that it is not locked as on top of everything?
The DAW mode hasn’t changed in several years, though. We have regularly proposed having a better indicator when it’s on. If you are interested, user AudioTrack has posted a fix that works well.
BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Fender Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.
Yes, DAW mode minimizes the window, but then people forget and maximize it, causing the problem.
I don’t think BIAB has a setting for which monitor it starts in. My system where I am now has one monitor, but when I get home later this week, I’ll experiment with two. I don’t recall anyone ever asking about this.

I have this same issue on multiple screens. I think it is actually a windows problem as I have email program open on a certain screen, which it does religiously, but sometimes when I delete an email and the next one opens it is on my main screen vice the one where email program currently is open. So besides the daw mode issue as noted earlier I think windows may be part of the issue, at least in my case.
My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.
I don't know if the following can be done on Windows. A bit surprising if it can't.
On Linux, which is my normal platform for most things and is on my music PC, I use a windows manager, which I control with a script. I have multiple desktop workspaces and use the script to distribute the application windows around the machine as I want, so workspace1 contains the mixer's control page, workspace2 contains Reaper, workspace3 ... etc., and the last workspace contains the audio/MIDI infrastucture stuff like Jack, default synths, patch-panel and so on, all distributed as I want around that workspace. I run BiaB under Wine on Linux, but have not yet tried to do position it with a window manager on the music-PC.

My guess is that the problem is there's just nothing in the BIAB code that tells the window to save and reopen in the last screen location it was used. This is very common. So they always default to display 1.
It's just odd that I seem to recall it actually doing that for a while, prior to the last update. I mean, maybe I dreamt it, but I have my DAW that opens in display 1, and I put BIAB in display 2, and I could swear that it used to open reliably every time in display 2 prior to this update, but now BIAB opens in display 1 every time again.
Regardless, it would be great for it to have that memory built into it's default settings, or as a setting in the display options.
I checked and if I have Band-in-a-Box in DAW mode, move it to the second monitor, and close it. Then the next time it is opened it is on the second monitor.
Now if you could please encourage the developers to make a clear indicator that the DAW Mode is on, it will avoid all these threads of users who forget they maximized the window while in DAW Mode.

I can repeat the getting it to open in window 2 in DAW mode, however, I cannot get it to open maximized. As soon as I maximize it and close, then it reverts back to window 1.
Interesting. I’m not surprised by this because the DAW Mode was not designed to do this. Years before the BIAB Plug-in, the DAW Mode was designed to reduce the size of the BIAB window and keep it on top, so you could drag and drop tracks into your DAW that was maximized underneath on the same screen. Dragging across screens was, I guess, not expected or desired. Maximizing BIAB was not desired either, but it should have been expected that someone would do so.
I think this should therefore go to the Wishlist.
