When Ricky first introduced his song I listened to some of the others he had written. I can across this one. At first it was only a guitar and him singing. But I liked the words and the meaning of the song. It's rare when a man writes stuff like this. It took us 4 tries before I finished the composing and adding stuff to it. So ... Click Here and give it a listen.

Very nice tune, Russ & Ricky! Enjoyed this one a lot! Catchy tune!

I'd raise the pedal steel guitar a bit, though...

I might be wrong .. it's a fault of mine LOL!!!

Love the tune! great vocals!!!

Cheers,
Mike

Sounds good boys. I'd lose the harms and replace them with a simple 1 up harm. He has a great voice and it is a clean vox, so the TC 1 up shouldn't be a problem there.

The music rocks. Ya'll tore it up on that.

I liked it.

Ricky and Russ,
I like the harmony. Ricky you know I like your voice. I would probably produce this a little bit differently. But having said that I must say this.

This is one of THE BEST WRITTEN SONGS that I have ever heard on this forum. I salute you for writing a great country song that with the right production could be a big country radio hit in my opinion. If I were still on the air I would play it. I can't give you a bigger compliment than that on your songwriting.

Josie said it all!

Super song, super vox and super mix - two thumbs up.

i agree on the steel needing to come forward a tad, russ. had to strain to hear it. i would also like to hear an instrumental break in the middle.

Thanks guys. Oddly enough, Ricky thinks there's too much steel and should be further back. He's also going to put up his own production tonight sometime, or maybe, tomorrow. Should be great.

I wanted to add some fiddle and swap with the steel. But, unless I just missed it, there are no swing fiddles in the RI's. Just evens.

When I first started there was an organ. Ricky didn't like that at all. So I swapped for the pedal steel. This particular cut was made in BIAB.

The original one I did didn't have the short turn around ending. It just kind of piddled to an ending.

Once I had composed the song to the way I wanted it to play I ported the BB file over to Ricky. I had him lay down a guitar track and a vocal track. I did the rest wih my voodoo.

About the harmonies. It's me singing the harmony thru my vocalist pedal. Had to shift the tracks around to get 'em to match up. I was going to go for the 1 up harm but it was a bit boring as this harmony has to move thru too many phases. Left it sounding a tad empty. So that's why you got to hear this version.

Who knows? Maybe one day I'll re-do it ... but most likely not.

Very fine production. I ran across Ricky's myspace page and he has some excellent material. He does a great job on the vox and Russ your help on the production side is wonderful. There can always be tweaks here and there to suit other's preferences - but I think this one is great.

That is quite the good tune. Has everything you would need, plus the cool twist at the end. Well done.

Ricky sounded out of breath on this one here and there, might want to work on the phrasing and the breathing. This one might be ready for some pro critiques and then getting a pro demo done!

I couldn't agree more. I'm no studio pro. Not by a long shot. I do have some saavy tho'. So I do alright. I hope Ricky takes this to the next step and finds a good producer for his music. He's extremely talented in the song writing department. But I think that with pro voice training he could goto the top.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I have to confess, as Russ mentioned, that I thought there was too much pedal steel, but that is why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream. :-)

I hope to have my version of the song done tomorrow. I had to tweak the lyrics a bit because some people were confused as to the meaning of the song. That took me a while, yet the ultimate fix was really simple. Go figure.

Will post it as soon as I can.

Thanks again to everyone, especially Russ for taking the time to create such a great arrangement of my song.

Hi Ricky. Glad to help. I had assumed from the words that she was a single mom. But on 2nd thought find that at the 1st of the song you metion that, while she's out dancing and cuttin' up with the girls, she could have any man there but has someone at home. So the spouse or significant other is assumed. Anyway it's a great song and needs to get properly published.

You are correct Russell. She is a single mom, although you aren't supposed to figure that out until the bridge. Some folks I played it for thought it was a breakup song. So I made a minor tweak so that they thought it was about a guy. Hopefully it works. We shall see. I posted my version. Let me know your thoughts.
