I just bought two new stage computers. I'm retiring my 2002 XP ThinkPad and Win7 ThinkPads. They still work but we've been playing in some dark areas, and I really want a backlit keyboard. The new ThinkPads I just bought have nice, bright, backlit keyboards.
When on the gig, I play the mp3 backing tracks that I make myself with Windows Media Player. I like the window to be small on the screen.
I can use the new Win11 version of Windows Media Player, and make it small, but the next time I play another song, it opens large again. It takes up way too much real estate.
So I chose the Legacy Media Player, which opens small every time.
OK, That problem is solved, but it creates another minor problem.
Unlike the old Win XP and Win 7 versions of Media Player, the progress bar along with the stop, start, vol controls disappear unless the mouse arrow is constantly hovering over that part of the window.
I like seeing the progress bar to know how close to the end of the song playing I am.
I wonder if there is any way to keep the progress bar from disappearing without having to hover the mouse cursor over it?
Notes, I have Win 11 Home Edition and use the Windows Media Player almost daily and don't experience the problems you are having. In particular, the progress bar never becomes hidden unless I intentionally drag another window on top of it (which wouldn't make sense to do).
The size of my window also doesn't change unless I forcibly change it, it doesn't change even if I fully minimize it and then bring it back. I can even lock my screen then unlock it and it returns to the same size and location.
Does your options window look similar to mine? If so, this sounds like you have a Windows-level setting set strangely.
