I have ripped some songs from some of my cds, and are working with them to make ringtones.
about 30 seconds in length.
But what is the best "format"
The originals are in WAV files stereo, but for easy downloading to cellphones I think it is best to convert them to mp3.
But what are the best nowdays should they be in stereo or mono?

Good question. I never bothered to make mine mono, and they work fine in stereo, although I'm sure I'm not hearing stereo from my phone. I use a Blackberry, which makes file transfer and choice of custom ring tones very easy. I can't speak for any other phone format.

Hi Tono. In case you are not familiar, a Blackberry is just a phone - a smart phone, somewhat comparable to the iPhone. It is nothing special as far as ringtones are concerned. I have a 4 GB micro SD card in mine, so storage size isn't a problem, and I just use WAV files rather than bothering to reduce the size to MP3. But in a device with the limited audio quality of a phone, I doubt that anyone would be able to hear the difference between a decent sample rate MP3, and its original WAV file.

My Blackberry is in a silicone sleeve and I never leave home without a pocket in my shirt. Won't own a shirt without a pocket. It's on permanent vibrate.
I'm of the opinion that the 2 vibrates are texts or emails, and if it goes a 3rd time pick it up and decide to answer it or not. I don't use it at all while driving. Ever. If I'm expecting someone I pull over.
Standing in a bunch of people hearing the Adagio for Strings come on or the Black eyed peas who deserved the punch in the eye is about the #1 thing I hate, right behind clipping your fingernails while talking to me.
Just my pet peeve rant on a bad night.
