Is this a bug? If I just play a song, it should work fine, even if I have a keyboard connected to the input of the PC and play along there? But it does not! My keyboard sends on at least 3 channels, which are also used by the style internally (is that important?). Every time I press a key, BIAB generates something in the background and stops the song and starts it again. "Generating ... " is displayed briefly. So I have to deactivate all transmitting channels on the keyboard if I want to play along to the song. As I said, BIAB is not on Record and not on Thru. Surely this can't be it?
It is all workflow and configurations. First, use the Return to Factory Setting to clear any residual mess ups. Next, attempt to fully replicate the settings below in the picture. This works for me.
That does not work for me, because I need the midi output as input for my high quality midi keyboard. I dont use the vsti or dxi Synth. It should be no problem with the output of BIAB if only in play mode.
You appear to be both sending from and recieving midi to, your Digital Workstation 1. I don't think you can do that.
You are trying to send midi out from BIAB to use the keyboard as an external synth? But that midi going out is the same port which is being sent back into BIAB?? My guess is this cannot be done.
But there are few fellows around here who may know better. We need to get their inputs. Good luck.
@MusicStudent That is normal doing with Yamaha Keyboards. Those are different drivers for send and receive midi data ;-) Thats ok and not the problem here. The problem is in BIAB who can not handle incoming of 3 midi channel data while playing a song.

I agree with MusicStudent, there seems to be a bit of 'loop' here where you have BIAB playing your keyboard and then your keyboard playing BIAB. Problems are likely to arise if any input channels (from keyboard to BIAB) are the same as output channels (BIAB to keyboard).
In the MIDI input window, have you tried selecting "No MIDI/sound input"? What happens when this is selected. Even if you can't hear any sound from your keyboard, try playing along with "No MIDI/sound input" selected and see if the system crashes. (This will help isolate if it is the input that's causing the problem.)
Hi, just chipping in here... I'm using a Roland FA-06 and USB Midi/Audio and experience the same problem when the synth is simultaneously sending midi data on several midi channels (i.e. ch 1,2,3), BIAB chokes on incoming MIDI and eventually stops.
Using a patch/sound that only send on MIDI channel 1 works fine.
The above-mentioned fix setting "no MIDI/sound input" works for multichannel, but then I lose the ability to input chords via the keyboard.
This works in BIAB 2020, so something has happened down the road.
This is not the first time this observation has been reported here in the forum. There was never a confirmation that this was a bug. Rather it was concluded this is design feature which does not exist. If we were to conclude it was a bug, it should be acknowleged by the PGM developers and it should be fixed. I suspect we will not get either of these things to happen. But it don't hurt to bring it up again. Good luck.
There is actually no reason for BIAB to regenerate when MIDI data arrives from more than one channel. That could be filtered easily, I'm sure. I will now switch off the BIAB MIDI input. Are the developers not reading this?
I have now decided not to use a lot of things in BIAB when playing along, as it is very sensitive and performance problems occur. The best way for me now is to parameterize the existing or self-created style in BIAB and export it to individual tracks of Ableton or Reaper when ready. There the mixing, patching and everything else can be done.

Hi Genos, sometimes yes, sometimes no. This is primarily a user forum - not something that is monitored by PG staff. If one wants their attention, an email to support@pgmusic.com would be a better way to get their attention.
