Well, here's a guess based on research.
BIAB named their product BIAB 12 in December 2002.
Then in December 2003, they switched naming schemes to BIAB 2004. Perhaps to avoid calling it '13'? Does Asia have the same superstition about the number 13?
Assuming version 2004 would have been the new '13', then version '17' would have come out in December 2007. It's pretty old. I don't think I want it.
On the other hand, does anyone here know what the person in that video is saying? Do you know it's Japanese and not from some other Asian country more famous for knockoffs?
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

I would assume that by looking at the number of related videos that also are talking about Band In A Box 17, including one that appears to be a demo video, with icons labeled in Japanese, that this is the way PG Music titles their product going to Asia.

You're probably right, Matt. Doesn't look anything special, does it?

If one looks one can see both the realtracks and realdrums icons. However there is no DAW icon on the screen so I doubt it is the current version, at least based on our standards.

Triskaidekaphobia is a uniquely Western superstition. One legend has it that ". . . threatened by [their] power and eager to acquire their wealth, King Philip [of France] secretly ordered the mass arrest of all the Knights Templar in France on Friday, October 13, 1307."
There is a Wikipedia entry on the subject.

There seems to be no Japanese people here.
I'm a native Japanese and using English version of BIAB since its Version 6.
Version !7 of BIAB is AUTHORIZED version sold in JAPAN.
Because version indication of BIAB is different in Japan, I sometimes can not reply to the questions which Japanese BIAB users ask with description of the BIAB version they have.
PG music should provide the correspondence of standard version and Japanese (or for other region) version officially.
By the way, the queer Japanese appeals how BIAB v17 can analyze the existing music into the BIAB format.
And Japanese does not hesitate to use the number "13" in our life. Instead, sometimes we don't like to use the number 4, 9, 42 because these numbers remind us of the "death" by their sound (in fact, some hospitals have no 4th floor). However, these feeling is not so severe.

Hi Mitz, Thanks for your message, and the good information. As you mentioned, we use different numbering for the J version of Band-in-a-Box. There is a J forum for Band-in-a-Box, on this same list of forums. http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=jp

Just for the record, thirteen happens to be my favorite number based on the fact that my first initial (M) is the 13th letter of the alphabet.
In one episode of Dragnet a house of "hippies" has a number "13" hung on the wall and one of the "hippies" explains to Sgt. Friday that it is because "mother" starts with the 13th letter.
Ah, TV back in the good-old-days.

Thank you Peter-san for your pointing out the Japanese forum of BIAB.
There, I have found BIAB/J v17 corresponds to BIAB 2009 because BIAB 2008 was skipped in Japan.
Once they planned to switch the version name to the year. However they could not switch because the localization takes time and it is not a good sales plan to release BIAB/J v2009 in year of 2010.
Anyway, thank you Peter-san fior your kind information.
Regards,
mitz

They may have arrested most of the Knights of the 13th, including Jaques Demolay. I have however survived despite that, and remain the musician in charge for the Richard Coeur de Lion Preceptory of the Grand Priory. Est. in 1857. I was not therefore a charter member. LOL.
