It would be very helpful with a function to create chords with just telling the tones instead of the Chord name. Let's say there is a Chord Analyzer window where you can click in the tones you want. For Example I click E, G#, D, F and I get the Chord namn E7(b9) out of it.

As for now I use the great App Oolimo where I can press the notes I want and get the Chord but It would be smooth to have it straight in the box where you right the Chord. It happens, at least to me that I want what tones I want tougher but not sure what the name is.

BIAB already has a feature that may help you. It’s called MIDI Chord Recognition and it’s in the Window menu of BIAB for Windows. You play the notes on a MIDI keyboard and it gives you up to four chord alternatives. Click on one to enter it onto the Chordsheet.

BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

If you don't have a keyboard you can set it up so you can draw the notes in the piano roll on an empty track.
Use midiOut in an empty track
and LoopMidi
set Biab midi input to LoopMidi and set the midiOut vst to LoopMidi
as you play that chord the Midi chord detector will show it.

PG Music also sells the +++ Piano Chord Dictionary +++ and the +++ Guitar Chord Dictionary +++. Both are great buys at $19 US each. Both have a "reverse chord" feature where you input the notes on the piano keyboard or guitar fretboard and the program lists all the possible chord names.

Hey Jim, if you have a complex chord, how many suggestions will these programs make? Just curious, since MIDI Chord Recognition is limited to four. I mean actually different chord names, not just each inversion as it appears in your picture.

I can give you some notes to try if it helps.

That one looks interesting but unfortunately only for Windows.

If you are on Mac I'm sure there was a midiOut for Mac
https://code.google.com/archive/p/pizmidi/downloads
and you can create a virtual midi cable in Mac.

I pulled the trigger on a simple Korg MicroKey 37. That should solve the problem and feels better than a virtual keyboard for me. Even if guitar is my main thing I often think chords in piano. I hope that will work smooth with BIAB and the Midi Chord Detector. Thanks for all advice and input!

Thanks n3,
Maybe we can add a mode where clicking on a piano keyboard would build up notes and show a chord.

Have Fun!
