I've mentioned this when talking with tech support on other issues and they say there is no solution yet, but are aware of the problem. I just thought maybe I can stir up a little more action on the forums because this problem has been going on for over a year:

What happens is that when I type a song that is too large for the screen the scrolling doesn't work after I adjust my wide screen to leave a space to the right or left for the lyrics document window. Instead of scrolling when the song gets to the end of the screen the chords start overwriting (display only) at the top of the page. It's not only annoying but I can't move the screen down to edit chords past that point, even when selecting full screen again. The only way is to close the biab program and reopen it. It will then work properly until I adjust the screen again, which seem to disable scrolling. Anyone else with the same problem?

Hi Jazzman,

If you can answer the following questions for me, I'll see if I can replicate your problem.

1. What version BIAB?

2. What is your operating system?

3. Am I correct in interpreting what you say as meaning that you drag the outside edges of BIAB and The lyric document window so that they end up occuping the left and right halves of your screen (i.e. side by side)?

4. Have you tried closing all windows except BIAB and Lyric Documents and then right clicking on the taskbar and selecting the option that places the windows side by side?

Regards,
Noel

Been happening to me.

I've reported it.

The screen goes haywire as we say.

I've also reported a bug in the printing dialogue when trying to print a .bmp file it won't work.

I get an error message Unsupported 16-Bit Application, saying I should contact the developer about a 64 bit Windows compatible version.

I'm using the latest audiophile on an internal dedicated hard drive. Windows 7, 8gb of ram, core2 dual 3.0ghz. I've tried all options and the only one that works is to not re-size the main window after first opening biab. I have sometimes got it working with re-sized window by dragging the window size before opening a song (first thing after opening the program), but although it has worked before, it is usually hit and miss, or doesn't keep working. The size of screen might be a factor since I'm running most of the time on a 50" plasma. Your #4 suggestion seemed to work (although it was on first opening the prgm.) but I don't want the lyrics window the same size as the main window, and after adjusting the main window to the proper size, about 2/3, the scrolling problem returned. Adjusting the lyrics windows doesn't affect it.

I'll play with it more this weekend and see I get the same results on a smaller 20" touch screen I just bought for my laptop.

Thanks again,
Mike

FWIW,
I'm getting the same issue in the main Chord window. No lyrics.

I have these same problems and I cannot resize properly Biab 2011 if I drag it to my 90° tilted second video monitor. (all the other programs resize well in my second video monitor).

Jazzman, what do you have set in the Prefs/Display section for font and is the box checked for auto-adjusting the number of rows? I had some similar problems a while back and it seems to me that I changed one or both of those and it went away. Sorry I don't remember the exact actions I took.
Good luck.

I have noticed the same problem when I run my BIAB 2010.5 USB HD on either a Windows Vista or Windows 7 laptop. But if I change the desktop theme to "Windows classic" and restart BIAB the scrolling works correctly for me. It appears to me that there is some incompatibility when using the newer "Aero" type themes.

Hope that helps,
Ed

Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions. They were very helpful, but I've tried them all and everything else I can think of. The only thing that works consistently for me is:

1. open the biab program, which starts with a blank canvas (no song or chords).
2. before touching anything else, click the "restore down" button and adjust screen where you want it (seems it has be done in one move for some reason).
3. open a song with chords that go off the screen and a lyrics window (you can adjust lyrics window but don't touch the chord screen size again)
4. Play song and it should scroll properly. If you even slightly bump the chord window size again you will loose the scrolling and have to close the program and start the above again.

I think a possible solution for the PG techs would be to add a check-box option in the display tab to "open the program with last used screen display." This would open to the size we want without having to re-size the screens, thus there shouldn't be a scrolling problem (at least that would be a possible solution if they can't figure out what's causing it in the first place - also would be a nice feature).

I'm just beginning to explore BB2011, and ran into this scrolling bug right away (build 313 under Win7x64 with a personalized aero theme and 23" LCD monitor). I confirmed that going to the Windows classic theme corrected the issue (thank you!). Then I got a pleasant surprise: when I returned to my desired theme, and fired up BB again, the issue stays gone.

Time will tell if this "fix" sticks, but thought I'd bump the thread in case this observation helps anyone.

-Ron

EDIT - Spoke too soon. That doesn't fix it. I hope PG is giving this one priority.

I can replicate this bug consistently (on Windows XP). If anyone would like to try to recreate the situation:

1. Open or make song longer than the size of the screen (100 bars or so).

2. Use the "Restore Down" button so that the window is not maximized. This button is directly to the left of the "X" exit button, and looks like 2 overlapping rectangles.

3. Maximize the window (where the "Restore Down" button was before, is now the "Maximize" button).

After bringing the window back to maximun screen size, that seems to be when the chord sheet stops drawing properly.

Hi Blake,
Yes, I get the same results as you running your steps on my XP desktop with BIAB 2010.5 (soon to be 2011!).

And I can replicate it on Win7x64. Thanks Blake. Since you're from PG, what's the word on the subject question of this thread - is the issue being addressed? (I recently submitted a request directly to support.)

FWIW, I can add that the compatibility troubleshooter of Win7 (an option available when you right click the icon) doesn't lead to a solution, at least none that I've found. I thought I had confirmed that going to the Windows "classic theme" fixes it, but checking just now, not even that works for me.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
