Hi folks,

I am trying to create some vocal harmonies in Power tracks (latest version) by using the typing in the chords feature and then generating the vocal harmonies from the lead vocals based on the chords The harmonies sound kinda okay but i FEEL like it can be a bit tighter. I am saying to myself maybe I am missing out on one step or something. TC HELICON Harmony products are usually very awesome and so to me, i SHOULD be able to create some kweeol and realistic enough vocal harmonies in PT. When i SAY that the vocal harmonies that i GENERATED could sound a bit tighter, I am referring to the pitches and vocal quality of the hARMONIES. Does anybody have any suggestion on how best i CAN SWEETENED these generated vocal harmony parts? Would y'all recommend that i USE the chord style to generate the harmonies or would y'all recommend maybe the other optional methods in PT??

i do await your quick response.

THANS A LOT.

I play the harmonies I want, recording the midi notes, then select that track to generate the harmony. (one at a time) Also pay attention to the gender and portamento for each part.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Rhav,

Thanks for your reply. I have a question for ya. You said you play the harmonies you want. my question is where does the singing part happen? i AM abit new to this so i am trying to get the necessary steps in order to follow the actual step by step procedure to create good harmonies. hit me back if you can very soon. thanks so much

You have to sing at least one vocal so the program has something to harmonize with.

Then I go to a MIDI track, and play the harmony notes I want along with the singing using my keyboard to send the MIDI.
I record a track of MIDI, then I go into the harmonizer and select the option to use a single track for the harmonies. The harmonizer will 'sing' along to the notes you played. I do this a few times to make the individual harmony voices.

You'll have to experiment a little with the range and male/female settings in conjunction with one another. If you play an octave too high or low it will sound silly of course. Even the portamento setting will sometimes make a difference.

BTW, this is also how you use the harmonizer to tune the vocals. Play a MIDI track of the original melody and run the vocals through it as described above.

The software version is not as good as the newer hardware boxes and you'll rarely get a 'perfect' sounding voice. To me it often sounds better when you do a bunch of voices to make a choir sound than if you use it for a single featured harmony.

I've also found that it works better if you sing the melody straight and nail the notes. If you slide around on the notes, the harmonizer can end up jumping around depending on how far you veer off the note center. Vibrato can affect this as well. I will often record two melody lines; one recorded straight for the harmonizer to use and one as I would generally sing it. Then I just mute the straight version for the final rendering.

Then I use the preview feature to change the settings until I get somethinig I'm happy with.

Hope that helps.
