I really thought this would be much easier than it was so perhaps I'm not understanding how this works.
I have a file (SGU) that I wish to Save As a wav file (since my CP5 can read wav files).
Clicking on Save As doesn't bring up the wav file option so I looked further. I created a handful of rendered files, each instrument separate - even ones that didn't sound when playing the SGU file were created - but not one wav file consisting of what I hear when I play the SGU file. I naturally assumed I would create one wav file, exactly what I hear when I play the SGU file in question.
Am I not understanding this? Do I have to take the outputs of one computer and record that into another computer to have just one wav file?
I'm still new to this, so please bear with me.
Thanks, Dave Horne

Hi Dave,
You're doing ok so don't be too hard on yourself. There's a bit of a learning curve involved.
You need to "render" your sgu files to wav. You'll find this command under the "Audio" menu. It's called "Render MIDI to stereo .WAV file, etc".
Click on this and a dialogue box will open. From the sounds of things, you're after the whole song so this would mean that you'd need to put a check in the "stereo file" box. You'll notice that it's also possible to render individual tracks to their own wav files. Lastly, it might be best if you activate "Normalize". Normalize ensures that the volume of the end product is suitable.

I think I'm using Real Drums (or whatever it's called) in the SGU file in question. Is that why I'm creating a handful of wav files when I really just want one?
I've also gone back and clicked on Normalize and Stereo.
I guess I was just surprised that Save As \ wav was not an option in the Save As dialogue.
From what you wrote can I assume that I can render several of those related wav files as _one_ wav file, in one go ? ... or do I really have to work from Render MIDI ... ?
I'll keep plugging away until I achieve this. Thanks!

Well, I've succeeded in creating a wav file with the instruments I want though the drum clicks to set the tempo sound rather chaotic. I guess I'll have to eliminate the count in ... ?
Is this yet another issue in this particular circumstance?

Opts --> Prefs has a count in control function. Turn it off.
Many of us use the free Audacity editor to load a sound file (.wav) and use it's features to trim the front and back end, and do fade in / fade out functions, plus a bunch of other things like making the track louder, add some reverb etc.
Lots of ways to 'skin a cat'.

You can also do what John Conley suggests using the 'free' Realband program, you already have that!
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hi Dave,
As John has said, there are lots of ways to skin a cat. Another one is to deactivate the option "Include Drum Count-in Sound" (and maybe "Include 2 Bar Lead-in"). Both of these are also in the render dialogue box.
Personally, I'm like John and prefer to edit out the count-in using a DAW such as Realband, Audacity, etc.
Glad to hear that you're making progress.
Regards, Noel

I'm familiar with Audacity and have used it for some time.
The drum click count in was horrible - spastic. I saw the options to include it or not but was wondering if that is also a separate issue.
Thanks everyone for the info and tips. All the best, DH

Lots of my stuff now has 4 to 8 bars lead in.
RealTracks.
Just the bass for a couple of bars, then the drums, then the background guitar. Then start.
For variation, just the drums for 2 bars, then the bass (I use the root for the 1st bass bar to get my 'bearings'. Then the guitar..
Works much better, sounds realistic.
I do have 1/2 a dozen where I come in on keys first watching the flashing by of the chords and then the drums, then the bass, then the actual song. That works great too, but I need a computer and don't use one much.
Did a dozen 3 to 4 minute standards the other day, mp3 player to their sound system, regular piano in the hall. Pre meeting cocktail hour type of thing. Got $50 tips. Not bad. Donated said tips back to Children's Hospital, (it was their fundraiser). Got a receipt, will get back 30 percent off my taxes.
