Hi all,

Just wrote another song yesterday, called Next To You. All RT/RD. Used Sonar 8.5 to record vocals, and mixing/mastering. Hope you enjoy it!

Next To You

Have a blessed day!

Pretty cool. a bit too mellow on the vox though. lyrics seem to call for more vocal angst.

I really like this Steve and the mix and feel is cool. Not sure why some here are critising your vocal eg "angst"(A feeling of anxiety or apprehension)Yeah I had to look it up.If people can remember a 60,s group called the Zombies the singer(Colin Blunstone) might have had this angst with his vocal but it was perfect for the kind of songs they were recording. So keep on with the good writing and singing.Cheers Frankie

just to add.Ive listened to a lot of recordings using biab and for me personally (its not a critisism of others on here just my personal view)this is the best Ive heard yet.The mix, mastering and overall feel sounds so professional.. I would be very pleased if I could achieve 80% of the quality of the recording of this track and I must say Im surprised at the lack of posts congratulating you on such a fine performance on a such a good song.. maybe its a time delay thing.Frankie

Hi PRearden & Jan!

Thanks for your input. I guess since I have been married for almost 35 years, I am not as "desperate" as I once was!

I wrote the song in part as a tribute to my lasting love and relationship with my wife. Any long term relationship takes a long term commitment, and is worth the fight, hence the song. Apparently I have one of those more "soothing" voices instead of one with a lot of "angst". I will work on it though, and truly appreciate your input!

Have a blessed day!

Steve

Bob,

Thanks so much for listening and giving such a good review! I am still learning how to get songs up on iTunes, etc. Also I am just getting back into the music world! I started out my career as a Minister of Music for a large church in Houston. For the past 20 years or so, I have been more involved in business, and the "preaching" side of ministry, with music being a little more on the "back burner". I just decided about 7 months ago that I was going to get more serious with my musical skills and songwriting.

Any suggestions or tips on how to build a "following" of my music, and so on, would be appreciated!

Thanks again for listening, and for your kind words!

Steve

When I first saw the post (without paying any attention to who was posting), I saw:

and had low expectations for the song. Then I gave it a listen, and my first thought was "He's got to be lying... There's no way this is all stock RealTracks!" I listened to it a couple more time, and still had trouble believing it.

Lyrically the song's pretty lightweight. But that's OK, because there's nothing the matter with that. It's a pleasant song.

But the arrangement - I'm very impressed. It's probably the best RealTracks arrangement I've heard.

I'd mentioned earlier that I though you'd overused pitch correction on some of your other songs. You've really turned it down on this song, and it sounds a lot better. So kudos there as well.

Steve,
Everything has been said. So I'll focus on this - I'm so impressed with the arrangement and your use of real tracks. It's inspirational to me how good you make the real tracks sound and how you mix and match them in such creative ways in every song. I absolutely love the arrangement on your last song and this one sparkles yet again. Please don't forget to list the ones you used.

Inspiring is what you are. And I enjoy your songs very much. You're a gifted singer/songwriter.

Hi Josie,

Thanks again for all your kind words!

I think one of the keys to making BB work with the RT/RD is "regenerating". When I first started using BB I HATED the fact that if I simply clicked "play" it would regenerate all the parts. So the lead guitar part, or the rhythm guitar pattern that I liked last time I played it would be changed. I would get so frustrated. Then I developed the habit of saving each part to wav when I am happy with it before it gets changed.

Now the "regenerating" is one of my best friends. I never settle for the first part generated, particularly on solos and cooperating rhythm parts. For some solos, I may regenerate dozens of times, and perhaps even over 100 times on a few, til I hear what I want. This gives each song a little more original feel . Even with all of this, I find that I can do a full arrangement in usually less than 2 hours.

I also try to keep an open mind to experiment with unlikely combinations. Sometimes you can be very pleasantly surprised.

I'm writing this from my iPad and don't have the list of RT/RDs that I used on this song handy. I will get back on tomorrow when I am back at my "studio" laptop and post all the instrumentation.

Thanks again, and hope you have a very blessed weekend!

Steve

Hi Steve,

I gotta say, this is an excellent arrangement and production. I can see what some of the posts were about regarding the vocals. You have a great voice pitch etc. I think the expectation due to the edginess of the solo, and the driving beat of the song is that the vocal should be a bit more bluesy and edgy. I can't find anything wrong with this song at all. It's been said that the lyrics are a little lite, but thats okay because of the message that the song is conveying. A raw edgy vocal in my opinion for what it's worth, would only enhance the song and make it more ready for mass media. Great job.

Steve,

Great, great job. Excellent groove.

It's got a Clapton vibe to it.

PS: That's a good thing.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
