Hi Steve,

I am most impressed with this song.

It (for me) is just perfect.

Well done and let's hear more of the same (not the same song , but, songs with the same "heart" )

Best regards
Michee

Rob, thanks so much for your observations. When I have some spare time I will probably re-record the lead vocals to make them a little edgier. I sometimes wish I had a more "edgy" sounding voice, but I have to work with what God gave me!

Mark, thank you so much! And I do like Clapton, so that is very much a compliment in my thinking!

PgFantastic, thanks again for the kind words.

Hope you guys are all having a blessed day!

Steve

Hello Steve

I listened to it today...and I thuroughly enjoyed it. Your comment about getting back into writing made me smile. I can relate just a little. Though I have not directed like you, I am a guitar player in our praise and worship team at church.

I'm the large 40 now...and have been enjoying the gifts of music ever since I can remember. Having dabbled in analog (yikes) recording since 1993 (or so) and stepping into the digital world in 2000...just doing my thing at home...solo.

Technology is (or can be) quite intimidating (for this old fart)...and as a father of 2 crazy little girls...time is often a luxury I do NOT have to dabble like I was able in the past. In fact, I think I'd be quite content lurking in my basement studio for months at a time...poking my head out occasionally just to check on seasonal changes. LOL.."...what? It's 2012, well, I'd better get crackin' then!"

I recently commited to the 2010 EverythingPak (back in June I think)...and of course lasso'd the newest 2011 upgrades to boot.

The challenge has now become (of course) learning...listening...reading...trying to "do" what is possible.

I find myself quite humbly saying, "Man...I've got a LOT to learn."

Anywho (this is long enough): Question: How did you manage the very slick 2 beat drum pickup/intro just before all the rest of it fires up? Was this done within BB or edited into Sonar after the fact?

Thanks for your time...keep doing your thing, you've got a solid handle on BB it seems, I hope to learn from the likes of you and others here...this is great stuff.

Hopeful BB Master Jedi Knight,
Eric

Hi Eric!

Thanks for listening. Glad you liked it!

As to your question, it's very simple to generate the 2 beat drum intro...

1. Insert 1 extra bar at the beginning of your arrangement.
2. Using the Bar Settings (F5), Mute the Melody and Soloist.
3. Input the following chords in the Bar 1 (This is assuming you are in the Key of C, 4/4 Time)...
[C. C.d]
This "rests" all the instruments for the first 2 beats of the bar, then "rests" all EXCEPT for the drums for the last 2 beats of the bar.

Rests and holds are great tools for arranging in BB. You can do some pretty creative stuff. Just experiment with it.

Blessings to you - and keep Praising Him!

That is a great sounding set of real tracks you put together. That is just an overall amazing arrangement/mix/master/magic!

Good tip on regenerating until you get what you want -- but I am not sure I would have thought of mixing this eclectic bunch together!

Kevin,

Thanks for the listen, and glad you liked it! I am constantly trying different combinations of instruments and styles. Sometimes you can really be pleasantly surprised, and this can open up a whole new world of musical ideas for you. And sometimes, it can just serve to give you some good laughs!

Have a great day!

Steve, It has already been said, awesome song and mix !!

I'll just add that you can "Freeze" any RealTrack in Biab instead of having to convert it to wave format everytime.

You can freeze all of them via "combo" box or each individual track by clicking on the header (B,D,G . . .) and selecting "Freeze Track." That option will keep the RT from re-generating and have it "stick." Then you can re-generate your other parts until happy and they are frozen like you envisioned them.

I enjoyed your song very much. A great example of what can be done with Biab.

Thanks,

Trax
