Hello all,
I've been on Soundclick forever and don't really care for it anymore.
Any suggestions for a different website to post my music would be helpful.
Oh, and free too.

I see Reverb Nation here and there. Any good?

Thank you in advance. Wayne,

I am sure you will get many good suggestions here, including the one above from Skyline but IMO domains are so cheap coupled with websites being so easy to build why not do your own website. This way you can have more than music on your site and of course have complete control of the content on your pages, i.e. no advertising etc.

Just a thought.

I think having your own website is a good thing but the only problem I see is getting traffic to it.At least with some of these companies you do get a much better chance of getting your music heard by a lot more people.
Im thinking of putting my songs on here www.song-tank.com Frankie

Wayne,

You say, "a better chance of getting your music heard by a lot more people" . . . I see your point but don't forget if you want "specific" traffic you will still have to do some sort of campaign to drive traffic to your music. For instance I would recommend starting an email or regular mail campaign to prospective clients, clubs, corporate planners, record execs etc, depending on just who you want to hear your music. If it is just the general public maybe sites like Face book would be the best bet as they seem to be gaining in popularity by the day.

With this said, the biggest advantage I see in having your own site is that after you get your target audience to your site they are looking and listening to "only" you and don't have one-click access to the thousands of other musicians sharing the same "stage/site" so to speak.

If you just want a place to have a few tunes up where you can direct friends etc. all of the sites like the one you are leaning to should fill your needs quite well. I guess it all depends on if you are selling, and if you are what you are selling and who you want to sell it to. (The old whiskey salesman in me just won't go away)

Best of luck to ya!

Edited correct name I replyed to Frankie when it should have been Wayne . . . Sorry bout dat.

Hi Danny,
What I want is just a place to have my tunes up where I can direct friends.
Maybe my own page would be best? I really don't like the whole millions of songs sites.
Soundclick is a bit busy with Ads and I keep getting friend requests from HipHop and Rappers? I don't get that one at all.
I have to see what are the option for getting my own website first. I don't know where to look yet.
I really don't care much about the traffic. Maybe I should have worded my Topic differently.
Thanks, Wayne,

Wayne,If its just friends your looking to attract then a web page is all that you need.I presumed you were looking to get your songs heard by those in the music business and I still believe if you are confident in the commerciality of your songs then getting them on a GOOD music site could just pay dividends.Frankie

Hi Frankie,
Dividends, I haven't thought about that for decades.
I just might have one song left in me. I spent most of my life trying to get published. After my accident 10 years ago, I stopped thinking about it.
My brother in law still gets paid for one song. Peter, Paul and Mary recorded and then the Muppets used it.
Wayne, (got to think about this. it might not be too late)

Based on your description, SoundCloud is best, IMO. Here's why:

1. You DON'T have to direct traffic there - there are loads of groups that you can join inside SoundCloud and your files get included in the genre groups, or rather simple links to e-mail to your friends.

2. There is seamless Facebook integration of the SoundCloud player - which your friends can then share if they like.

3. Lots of different security options for whether you want to just stream files or allow for download.

4. No coding knowledge needed whatsoever.

5. The way that comments on songs are submitted on SoundCloud is just plain cool - directly on the timeline of the waveform of the song. Instead of having to keep track of where in the song to make a specific comment, your listeners can just comment right there.

6. It is free up to 120 MB, which is fairly big pile of .mp3 files - pay if you want more.

7. playback statistics by country, etc.

Having to do all that on my own with coding, no thank you.

Click on my SoundCloud in my signature to have a listen to my tunes in my SoundCloud.
(no I don't work for them, but I really like their M.O.)

I have my music up on lots of sites, main ones are soundclick, reverbnation, and acidplanet. These are all free sites. I have not checked out soundcloud yet, but have some friends over there, so I'll probably get to it at some point.

The advantage of the music sites as stated above is that people will hear your music without you having to do anything, I've sold a few CD's that way, plus met many new musician friends. I've done a few tunes with a great keyboard player that I met on acidplanet, a Canadian now living in Costa Rica. Lots of fun! All of the sites I am on are genre specific, so someone looking for blues will find me.

I also have my own website. I don't actually host music there because I have bandwidth limitations, but I do have an embedded player that is linked to reverbnation, so best of both worlds.

I've checked out many of these sites and I think I'm sticking with Soundcick for now.
Thank you all for your help.

Hey Wayne,

One thing you mentioned that you didn't like about soundclick was all the adds.

What I did over there was upgrade to the VIP account, that way there are no adds, plus the page looks a lot better IMHO. Price wise it is a lot cheaper than doing your own website when you take into account you need to pay to register the domain name plus pay for hosting.

Something to think about. My soundclick page is here: http://www.soundclick.com/blueattitude
