Oh and just use find on those files and go to where they reside if you don't know. If you are familiar with what should be running or not on a computer and start killing processes that look suspect it just might fix the problem, but if it's an effect and plugged and wrong it might just start again when you reboot.

As one user found out here, after much hand wringing, and people jumping in, it can be just a bad cable that crapped out.

The wife to me yesterday. "There's a puddle downstairs...."

I can't get there very well, but a hose for the washing machine on the hot water side is leaking. It's like 12 months old. But I send her for a new hose. I just came up after putting it on, and it was rusted so no rotation. Cut it with a tile cutter to get it off. Take out the washer and it's perforated right through by rust. Now had I been on vacation in a few months in Europe and the thing let go, it would have flooded the basement. And run and run down the drain. A thousand bucks to the city for water and sewer surcharge, and how much in gas for the water heater over 3 weeks. Ok so my son checks the house every 3 days BUT...still.
