I have in plan to buy a netbook ONLY to use BIAB when I am travelling, at home I have another better system. But it can help me practise and rehearse my tunes and make new arrangements when I am not at home. Following your experience, which brand has better audio ? Does a hard disk speed of 7200 rpm bring an advantage over 5400 with Real Tracks ?
The goal is to help me choose among all these low cost machines. Thanks for your advises

7200 or 5400 rpm makes no difference when using BIAB. Onboad-Audio often is a cheap RealTEK-Chip. There are some differences in speaker quality. But the built in speaker all sound lousy.
Most important is a HD-Display! On my netbook (EeepC 1005HA) with SD-disply (1024x600 pixel) BIAB 2010 worked well. But the new BIAB 2011 comes with longer menues and bigger dialog boxes. They don't fit into a SD-display. There are allways cut off lines on bottom of the stylePicker or RTPicker or other dialog boxes. So, better look out for a netbook with 10" HD-dispay (1366×768 pixel) or one with an 11,6" display.

Dell's Mini 10 offers the higher resolution video, although it might get small on a 10.1" screen. Audio won't be great on any of them from what I gather from reviews I've read, so headphones or a good external speaker set will be needed (a pain on the road). I have user experience with the Asus netbooks and the Toshiba 305 series and both were terrible for built in speakers. Sounded great on headphones or connected to the pa system. It might be a bit of a challenge trying to practice with headphones on but can be done. I think the netbook for the road is a great idea. Will you be running BIAB from the usb drive or from an internal drive? Will make a difference on hard drive size when making your decision. Good luck.

CloClo, I used a netbook for the same reason you want to, and it's great for travel.
The other posters are correct: use headphones.
The hard drive speed does make a difference, though relatively small, between 5400 rpm versus 7200. I have use of two similar laptops and this is a clear performance difference between them in any program. However, during testing of RealTracks in earlier versions of BIAB, it made much more of a difference than it does now with version 2011. I can explain that statement if needed. Now, the processor speed is probably more important than the hard drive speed.
The laptops I have used for the past decade have all been Toshiba, with great results EXCEPT the netbook, a 205 model that was OK for BIAB but just died (motherboard) after 18 months. [Best Buy wanted $550 to repair a computer that cost $400.] The small screen size was bothersome for the chordsheet, and more than two RealTracks bogged it down. I replaced the netbook with a 14" I5 laptop and I'm a lot happier now.
BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Fender Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.
