Congratulations! Great going. You're now back on stage. Good for you!
It is pretty common here at restaurant gigs to get your dinner for free. Also on parties with catering I always get invited to join the buffet. I always get all my drinks for free at my gigs (beer, wine, whisky, whatever). Too bad I never drink on the job...

I drink mostly water to keep the throat moist. One beer a set is it.Singing 45 songs a night is a lot.

Congratulations and break a leg!
Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer. It's called the Heineken Maneuver.

Way to go John !! Glad for you !
As Mike said, I also stay on water. Keeps my ideas clear... After I'm finished, though, I'll have a few beers. That being said, maybe your can allow yourself a few beers while playing, 'cause your simply more moderate than we are !!
Best of all and hope your day is a nice one

Water is the best way to go! Start drinking water before you actually start your gig; it takes some time for the throat to get moist. When I arrive at the gig I usually have a cup of coffee or two. From that moment on it's water only (lots of it). After the gig another coffee and I'm ready to load my equipment.
Yes, singing 45 songs a night is a lot. Using good singing technique makes it a whole lot easier to do!
Isn't it ironic that we can drink all the beer we want for free, but stick with plain water

Congrats. Easy on the beer, it gives a bad impression if you're swallowing all you can get. By all means have one or two after you're finished, but I'd stick to soft drinks when you're performing. Looks better and might end up with more gigs !

Good news. Have fun!
I used to keep a beer on the piano.
One lounge of regulars, one guy gets me the first beer. The bartender is an idiot and wants to watch hockey, offers to buy me a beer to quit. The kitchen is bringing me supper so I agree. Done supper someone buys me a beer to play WW2 songs. I play 3 and the bartender buys me another. On it went, off and on the barstool all night. The wife shows up with the van and raises her eyebrows, a dozen bee0rs tonight eh?
Yup, and $50 bucks tip, free drinks, and free supper. And I saw most of the hockey game.

Great news! The only caution I would have is to be sure the food and drink aren't looked at as part of the pay by the establishment. I always like to determine "$$ fee" first and if they offer food and drink after the $$ has been settled I look at it as a nice gesture on their part. Although I did work with a keyboard player who would put away more groceries than we got paid in cash.
Break a leg, or in the case of two gigs, heck break both of them!

Later,
Most definitely $$$ first.I've been doing this music stuff for 45 years so I've seen all the tricks they try to pull. The nice thing is it's every Tues. & Wed. not just a one shot gig. It's a case of trying to build business on the off nights. No one is doing what I am in this area & a band would never fly during the week. Well that's not totally true is it? A Real Band should do just fine!

That is really cool John, i bet that will be a lot of fun. What would make it double cool is to take a small digital hand held recorder and attach it to the mixer and record the sessions and then later drop those in RB and clean them up and make a nice Cd for sale at your gigs.

This is great for you, I was hoping you would find something eventually. You've been doing this as long as I have, you don't need any advice from me just work that tip jar! About singing 45 songs, most bass players can play some guitar. Can you do any country style instrumentals on guitar? Sleepwalk comes to mind, I know there's others.
