I started recording in RB last summer with great success. I took off Nov and Dec. Now I am back trying to record but nothing takes. The VU meter is showing my vocals at -9 to -3 db, but nothing is there on the track. I usually don't record in BIAB, but pulled it up and COULD record there. Any suggestions of where to look for probably the obvious?

thanks
Martin

Is the track set to an audio track?
Can't record audio to MIDI track
If so, is it a MONO track and maybe the left/right selection of *which* mono side to record is off (found in audio prefs)

Vu meters will show input, but audio may not record to a MIDI track (inless you have this covered in prefs)

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I just set levels, make sure the empty track is red, hit record audio button, hit keep take.
BTW it can be a MIDI track it'll just convert it on it's own. Not a big deal but just one less step.

You must have'record audio, too, if track is MIDI' selected in preferences, (as I mentioned above) or it won't do it. You'll get a blank track.

Track is set to audio mono. Track selected (red), hit record, record, hit stop, keep take, and all I get is the thin green line replacing the black line running down the middle of the mono track.

If my VU meters indicate an incoming signal, when I record, this can't be a RB driver issue, and the fact that I can record in BIAB means my signal chain is working. Doesn't it?

Missed that!

Just out of curiosity when you get the thin green line rt click and choose "select whole track",then rt click again and choose "audio effects" and choose gain & then normalize the track. Is there audio now? If so there's something wrong with your levels.
BTW did you take note that there are 2 RECORD buttons? One is record the other is record audio.

OK, I had the 2496 selected in the control panel as the default recording device. I plugged in my USB Blue Icicle changed the default to it and got a recording. It is something to do with the Delta2496, I guess. When recording in mono is only one channel of the VU meter input suppose to indicate signal? I am only getting a signal in the right channel.

Yes, only one signal for mono

Now go to Audio Preferences and change the setting for MONO input from Left (default) to Right.
Or switch the cables in the back ..

I think you are sending signal in right side and recording the left side

OK, I got it. I was going into the right RCA channel of the 2496. I switched to the left and am now getting a recorded signal. I figured it was something obvious. The mic line must have been moved from the left to right since my last recording 2 months ago. I should never take off so long between studio stuff. I need retraining.

Thanks!
