On the Pianoteq forum (the software I use to generate piano sound), one of the contributors posted the following link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYTlN6wjcvQIt lasts about an hour, and I think it's worth listening to the whole spiel. Hi Glen, been a while. BTW, picked up one of these: http://www.korg.com/ps60Only had about 3 hours on it so far, lots of piano 'tunings', stretch etc. Some I'd never use. No kinda Honky-Tonk guy eh? I had a Roland/Rogers W50 as my main gig thing for years, if you count weekly trips to the Masonic Hall a gig. It blew the powersupply, (wall wart), I got another and noticed it heated too much, then the volume slider started cracking, then the power would sometimes click on and off driving the Bose nuts. I normally never use a computer or backing tracks, and this lets me layer a lot of sounds. Very nice looking, I tease the wife I'm going to sleep with it. Just to crank me she showed up for bed in make up and nail polish. Must be almost spring out there. It's now the bleak mid-winter here, 14F here now, fresh snow. Now it's decision time, the papers just came. I got up for a drink, thought it was sunrise, turns out it's moon rise. in the east with just enough cloud to bounce it into my eyes. Off to see Wynton Marsalis Tues night at Massy Hall, the wife gave in and we are taking the train both ways instead of driving, I am getting 'anti' 401, especially in the winter. By the time I pack the winter gear in the car (Mini cooper) there's little room for us! I'll give that video a watch once I get going.

Thanks for this most interesting tutorial.
I happened to get to know people who cultivated sticking those little plastic stickers right on their windows. They were utterly and firmly of the opinion that these magic stickers would keep detrimental radiation off their house (whatever type of radiation they imagined). Didn't know that this type of superstition is around with some of those audio aficionados as well. Great presentation, indeed.

Thanks Scott - I was on holiday when that thread came up. Pianos sounds have taken over for me, and we're in beta testing again. A current discussion on the Pianoteq forum revolves around the benefits of 48 vs 44.1 rendering of sound. Keep in mind this is for pianos - which oddly have very little if any frequencies above 15 or 16 kHz. Oh yes, and we're talking about adult males, not many of whom can hear anything above say 15 or 16 kHz. Some of the discussion was getting a little bit (what I'd call goosey), and someone posted the link to U-toob. John: That Korg is useless - it' missing most of it's keys  . Our latest version of Pianoteq has an extended range - eleven at the bottom and four at the top. The top notes are pretty well just clicks, but the bottom ones are really interesting and can be useful. Glenn

I've never been one to claim audiophile capabilities - even though my jobs have always demanded somewhat of that claim.
I can't say I've ever heard a difference in 48 vs 44.1 kHz playback. I've only had access to one playback system which could actually handle that with fidelity that would make a difference; the HPS systems from Head Acoustics with modified STAX electrostatic headphones on the A side of the D/A.
We rarely recorded in anything other than 44.1 kHz, because it was always possible that somewhere down the line, if a recording was done at 48 kHz, the person with the recording wouldn't have a system that could do the downconversion on the fly.
I still stick to it with my personal recordings. I record base tracks at 24 bit depth, 44.1 kHz. My input signal chain would not be able to provide any reason to go into either more depth, or a higher sample rate.
The 24 bit depth is much more forgiving for the quantization SNR than 16 bit; don't have to worry so much about setting gains perfectly right up front. I can record 20 dB down and not worry about it being 'hissy' if I have to boost a track.

Glen the last 12 to 15 notes of a regular piano are gone, side effect of chemo. And the hearing aids that are supposed to boost what's left around there make the piano unbearable. I was going to get an 88, but....
The keyboard has a very interesting function, there are 2 buttons on the left for dropping or boosting an octave. If I use it I drop it of course, and push up an octave on the right to compensate and grab some great bass. There are tuning variations beyond 'honky tonk' which I've never found a use for. Some of the electric sounds are usable as stand ins for what I'll call harpsichord sounds the wife I and use for old gaelic music. We have about 30 pieces of stuff in that repertoire, 'Suo Gan' would maybe be a tune one might recognise, and we do have some Scots stuff a few would know.
I'd be more accepting of the deafness which they call profound, however it got replaced by a perfect fifth which I can't hear without amplification, drum sticks clicking (send me around the house for days looking for it), then some kink of cricket clicking. I'm experimenting with 'noise' in the bedroom to help me sleep.
I did keep my lower end hearing, but lost my voice.
When you get a hearing chart with frequencies marked on it it's a bit of an eye opener. I had no idea that some sounds like K and C were so high in relation, and those are the ones i can't hear from women in particular. Some men I can't understand at all. I swear all 2500$ worth of hearing aids got me is misery in the stores. I have to turn them off, grocery carts crashing, kids screaming, those scanners beeping, I hear none of that with them off, but I can hear the darn scanners at the very back of the store and if it's busy YIKES!
Anyway, the wife and I spent 2 hours last night with the new keyboard, and I'm doing a bunch of new stuff I found. I looked at a bunch of other keyboards, but i don't need it to do the salsa for me, if I want that I have the band in the box ...!
