Due to popular demand there is a new download only option....announced today.
And I think that page with the explanation of versions is new...purchase options a bit more ...explained?

Yes, when the UltraPAK used to be 90 GB, we had some download-only customers (this was available as a special order by contacting us). So now that it is about 1/3 of the size, more people can do it. With a download manager like "Internet Download Manager", this is a straight forward procedure (paste the URL with all of the download links, and Internet Download Manager ( http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/?v=604b3 ) handles it from there - downloads it all in about 24 hours (in the background). Note that Internet Download Manager downloads files much faster than a typical browser download (since it downloads files in segments, and seamlessly assembles them at the end).

I thought this was a direct response to the clamour that arose subsequent to the latest release. The tone was some people were miffed over the lack of a download option.
So now it exists. Without the shipping costs, the hard drive costs. It remains to be seen what an update from 2011 to 2011.5 might entail in the way of files.
That is if there is 2011.5. Not that I know anything about that.

It makes no sense to me to be critical about this new option. PG Music responded to customer requests, particularly those in other countries who have import duty fees and/or inordinate shipping delays.
If someone does not want this option, they do not have to use it. We should be thanking PG Music for providing this option for those who do need it.
