Hello All,

Since the 2011 upgrade, two new styles alone made the upgrade well worth it for me- Gypsy jazz and one called pop calypso. Both cover a lot of ground for me, but pop calypso could use some modifications- for my taste, the accordion and the guitar parts are too bright.

Aside from turning down the volume, is it better to provide more bottom end using the overall Combo tone adjust or the individual parts audio tone adjusts? Or can I just apply an overall after-effect post BB? A general rule-of-thumb is all I need.

All help is greatly appreciated.

'Twas me and I found those parts consistently not to my taste i would load the RT files into an editor and adjust them to my liking. That way each time you load a RT into the program it'll already be fixed for you and be consistent.Save a copy first in case you mess up bad. You can always go back.

As you stated, the parts are indeed consistently not to my taste. So are you saying that I can load the raw RTs and edit THEM rather than editing the tracks generated for each song? And this can be done in RB?

This sounds very exciting!

And of course congratulations on your new gigs. I'd be a regular at that bar.
Your cover tunes sound great. I really enjoyed Don't Close Your Eyes . That's a Keith Whitley, unless I'm mistaken.

Yes you can. Just load the raw RTs into RB do the tweaking and resave.Make sure you make a copy of the originals.You probably have them on the external drive anyway.

As mentioned, there are lots of possibilities. During beta testing, I discovered a few RealTracks where the volume was too low, and of course PG Music fixed that once notified. In the meantime, I just boosted the volume of the raw tracks in my audio editor; took just a few seconds per track.

When I get "odd" sounds in a final mix, I will sometimes go in to my sequencer and do an audio edit on one track to silence or lower the volume on something I didn't like. Doing this one by one is not any different that correcting the mistakes of a real performer's live playing.

If there were something - maybe just one thing - I really couldn't stand, it would be possible to audition each RealTrack for that instrument and do some surgery so it never showed up again. Remember as advised to make a backup first.

I must say though NEVER change the length or tempo or pitch of those RTs as they will no longer correspond to the ST2 files that control them. EQ, dynamics, reverb etc are fine.

In the hard drive E:\BB\RT\ is a folder- Accordion Rhythm PopCalypso EV100 which contains the files AC0041.wma - AC0052.wma.

If I understand your instructions correctly, I can open these files individually in RB and make the desired changes. I then save the first one under a different name, e.g. AC0041_ NEW, but how does BB then know to look for the new file rather than the old file?

The other day I commented (OK, I complained) about some errant RT piano parts. During one song (non-jazz) while in C for 8 bars, the piano played beautifully, but then unexpectedly, threw in an Ab and Bb passing notes. The minor 6th and 7th were completely out of place, and since they were random, the style was virtually useless w/o any additional editing.

But this too can be corrected if I can locate and delete the offending sections of a file? Not as easy as MIDI, but at least I don't have to sacrifice the part or the entire style.

That's a tough one. If you listened to every bit of the RealTracks for that instrument and edited out all minor sixths and minor sevenths, then the style would never work if you had those chords in the song. Plus, you would need Melodyne to do it.

Instead, I think I would do surgery on that section of your song, rather than guess where to edit the RealTracks raw files. I would take it into a sequencer where I could work on one track at a time.

You're absolutely right. The flatted 6th and 7th was only disharmonious in the particular context I mentioned.

In another thread, someone commented on using the same RT style in different songs, let's say two rumbas. One sounded good and the other not so good. Same with some jazz swing. I guess some chord progressions can be handled better than others. Beats me.

I suggest you send an email to PG Music Support with a description of the problem, and attach a song that demonstrates the problem. It might be that you have found a problem with that particular RealTrack.

Make a copy of the original WMA file and store it in a new sub-folder (named some like "Backups") of the current folder .

You would then edit the WMA in the original RT folder and save it with the same name in the original folder. BB can then find it with no problems.

... or try writing the chords in a different way.

C6 instead of just C may force the A as opposed to Ab,
can't hurt to try something like that.

Rharv has a very good suggestion. For example, I often write C9 instead of C7, if I don't want a flat nine thrown in.

I've been snowed-in since yesterday and finally had the time to tackle some of my RT problems. In my initial post, I mentioned my new found affinity for the Gypsy Jazz styles; the more chord changes the better. As such, I had to be very specific in defining them.

One of the songs with the offending Ab and Bb passing notes (with C displayed) is La Paloma.The piano part used is one of the solo accompaniment rhythms, and with the more specific chords like C maj7 the problem does seem to go away.

I appreciate you clearing up my back-up question. And as John mentioned, I can now make the necessary and non-destructive changes to some of the RTs.

Make a copy of the original realtracks and rename it for retrieval later in case disaster strikes! It will save having to contact PGMusic, beg for a link and redownload the set ... then re-install.. etc
