I came across what may be a pretty good deal. It's a refurb laptop. I have had three Mac refurbs and never a hiccup. Still running two of them. So: At $455. and change... An Hp G62-228ca-P320 @ 455.00. AMD Athalon dual core 2.1 Ghz processor, 500gig Hd, Four gig DDR3ram, 7200rpm SEGATE drive. Win. 7 home premium 64 bit.
I am a novice in the pc world and know nothing of Laptops but this seemed like a great box for running `11 audiophile. They had 50 of these when I ordered the other day. There is a one or two year extended warranty available at 109 or 149 bux respectively. These are at tiger direct unless those in the know think this is not that good a great a deal. This may not be all that fast by today's standard but it is over kill for running Audiophile with good track load times. Should I have kept looking? It was the ram, hd, and processor that got my attention.

Seems like a good deal to me.
HP Win 11 12 gig ram, Mac mini Sonoma with 16 gig of ram, BiaB/RB 2026, Reaper 7, Harrison Mixbus 11 , Presonus Audiobox USB96

HP laptops do not have a very good reliability record (according to PC World). In fact, they are near the bottom of the list. So make sure you get a good guarantee with it.
Macs and ThinkPads consistently get to the top of the list in reliability, and if my ThinkPads are any example, they are worth the rating.

My experience with Compaq, now part of HP, was horrible. (A $1500 desktop replacement laptop became a basket case due to the failure of a $12 power connector.)
My experience with HP desktops, laptops, and printers has been excellent. They have superb aftermarket support by phone, chat, or e-mail.

A bought a NEW Lenovo with better specs for $399 including shipping from New Egg at Christmas.

I only paid $100 more in December 2009 for a new Toshiba laptop with the exact same specifications with the exception that is has an Intel Duo Core processor instead of AMD.
There are so many great deals out there now for new laptops, vs. refurbished, that I would really look around before I bought a used one.

Power cord connection on laptops has been a major issue in some brands. A friend of mine has a PC repair Shop and Dell has been bad about the PC connectors.

Before the purchase I talked to a tech guy I worked with in a computer store who is in the pc repair business now and he felt they were good quality laptops. But I got the two year warranty for the price of a battery it's battery
