I'm having a problem recording MIDI into PTPA 2010. The monitoring latency is such that the delay between striking a note on the MIDI device and hearing it back is making it impossible to record anything in time with the metronome. Can anyone tell me how to adjust this please? I've looked in devices and the playback in the Softsynth Latency Adjust seems fine. Thanks.

Have an ASIO driver available for your soundcard?

They are faster at this process
Check in prefs - audio

Thanks for your reply. My soundcard is Creative Soundblaster and I have Creative ASIO selected in Audio Drivers, ASIO selected in Audio Driver Type and Enable Input Monitoring checked.

I doubt you are using input monitoring; that can likely be un-checked unless you are using realtime effects on the synth.

What is your chosen DXi/VSTi synth?
What are your ASIO buffers set at? This is where adjustment will make a difference hopefully ...

Thanks rharv. I've unchecked the input monitoring and as you suggested, it has made no difference.
In my MIDI output drivers I have SB X-Fi Synth A and Synth B selected. My default DXi/VSTi synth is CoyoteWT and I have 'Re-Route MIDI playback to default' checked.
As you have no doubt already realised, my technical know-how is somewhat limited so ASIO buffers are a bit of a mystery to me, however, I hope this answers your question. In the ASIO audio drivers window, Preload Track Buffer MS is set at 2000. In the Creative ASIO driver control panel, ASIO Buffer Latency is set at 40ms, which is the lowest option it offers.

Change the SB X-FI synth A to the MS GS synth, or something close.
Even though it is not being used, this has helped some ... not sure if it'll help there.

The 2000 MS buffer is 2 seconds. Often it is given in samples, as opposed to MS.
Try changing that to 50, then if it improves work your way down to an acceptable level and set it there. Don't keep going until it starts stuttering; there will be a zone where the latency is acceptable, and system can keep up comfortably.
Often that number ends up at 5-10 ms for some folks. Depends on how fast the system is.

Thanks again - I've tried selecting the various options I have in MIDI output drivers, including Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth, and none make any difference.
I tried resetting the Preload Track Buffer to 50 but it won't accept it - it says the range must be between 200 and 2000 so I set it to 200 but again no difference. Should I be looking for an ASIO buffers setting somewhere other than in PTs ASIO audio drivers window?

I have the Creative ASIO control panel set to the lowest it will go, 40ms. I'll forage around and see if I can find anything else. Your help is much appreciated.
