Another welcome to the forum Chris, thought I'd add my 2 cents to the good responses above as follows:

Regarding songs sounding alike, I think if it weren’t for the melody and phrasing styles of singers that statement would be true in almost everything we hear today. For instance I find myself many times listening to a song on the radio, blanking out the melody and sing one from another song in it's place and it fits very well. But that is because the tempo, chord changes and style are also very similar. The thing with BIAB is not only that there are so many styles already packaged and ready to go, but also with the style maker the possible variations are extended even more. Currently my playlist is well over 500 songs spanning many genres and I am doing 75 or so gigs per year and with the exception of getting a 50's gig playing a lot of do-wop four chord progressions I never even think about the songs sounding similar.
