We asked for half when we showed up.
Loading, unloading, setting up is half the work, we were obviously going to play now ...
And we were taking our stuff home with us, so reloading was understood.

If possible, talk to others who have played there, it could be worth more than the contract. Owners who shorted guys got the lesser quality bands for the weekend. The good bands wouldn't play there. They learn that way.

If you get a chance, watch One Trick Pony (movie). Apparently even Paul Simon, with a big name band and managers and contracts got stiffed once in a while.. the cost of trying to recoup the money cancelled the gain.
