I need a free programme that will allow me to ouput a slide show of randomly selected pictures (from a dedicated folder) on a projector, it should also ideally be able to randomly select the pictures to present and allow me to set the timing between tranisition from one picture to the next. There are about 130 pictures I want to show, with a transition time of about 10-15 seconds between each.

I have been asked to MC and DJ for a birthday party and there is an overhead projector so I want to be able to set the above programme to run in the background via the projector only, leaving me to run my laptop as a DJ tool.

Any ideas anybody?

Many thanks as usual in advance

I have never used Open Office but pretty sure it's free and compatible with Powerpoint of which I use all the time for visual backgrounds for some of my music gigs. Download Open Office, I think it will do the trick for you, but you will need a laptop run the program.

Sam, take a look at irfanview .

It’s free and does exactly what you want plus a lot more, like burning your slideshow to a CD.

I haven't lost all of my marbles but there is a small hole in the bag someplace!

I'm pretty sure the screen saver app in Windows XP does exactly that if you set it up correctly. I'm on a Win7 lappy right now so I can't check easily.

Yes it can. It'll randomly flip though a folder of pictures.

The screensaver will do that. Unfortunately the screensaver doesn't work when you are using the computer...

I don't think you can have one program running your slide-show and outputting the images to a beamer and run your DJ-software at the same time without having that sent to the beamer also.

It can be done with dedicated DJ-software like Numark Cue. I know from experience that you can select video-clips and send them to a beamer while you have your DJ-tools at the same time. You can make video cross-over effects and more. I don't know if the program can handle slide-shows.
You can get a 20-day demo-version for free.

What DJ-software are you using at the moment? Perhaps you can do it all with your current software?

Screensaver won't work - it only works when the laptop is unattended. I need to be able to do this on the fly

I have used this, the transitions at random are fantastic.

I still don't think this can be done...

I think what you will need is two computers, one for the music show and one for the on screen presentation. That is exactly how I do my shows.

PS: If you don't have a second just borrow a friend's laptop for the screen show, odds are it will already have Powerpoint installed, set your slide transition times and reveals hit play when you are ready to start the presentation and you are done, homefree. Unless I am missing something here this should be a pretty simple operation. I know sometime us creative types tend to over think a realtively simple production.
