There not super slow loading but when fishing for a good style it does take 20 - 30 seconds or so. Which is losing 10 minutes every 20 or so styles. If I could get this down to 5 seconds or so that would be great. Assumimg it's a RAM issue how do I find out what I've got and what I can do to make it faster?

I went to Crucial.com and here's a copy/paste from their website.

"The amount of memory your Windows computer will recognize depends on two factors:
the maximum capacity your computer hardware can handle and the version of Windows your computer uses.
The most memory the 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) is only 3GB or 3.5GB, if your computure hardware can handle it. The 64-bit version of Windows can address even more memory."

Since my computer says it has a "AMD 64 Processor" does that mean it's a 64-bit version of windows? If it is 64 bit does that also mean I can increase my recording resolution. I've still been recording with my SoundBlaster card at 16 bit "CD Quality".

That depends on the operating systm, you could have 32 bit XP or 64 bit.

Either way, going from 1 gig to 2 gig RAM made a huge difference here in XP.
Both the 32 bit or 64 can record at higher resolutions, but the realtracks are at a set resolution, so they won't change much. I find 24/44 is pretty good, or 24/48; not much change going above that.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I use the HD version with 2 gig of ram and I am guessing mine takes maybe 10 seconds to generate a single RT, if that. The list comes up very fast as well.

Do you have your RT/RD folders in a different location then X:/BB/RealTracks or X:/BB/Drums ?

I will, 99% of the time, start my song In Biab: 1.Style is pre-selected 2. Chord layout complete 3. Real Track(s) are generated and saved in Biab file 4. Simply load into RB and fine tune things.

I missed the *fishing for a style* part, my bad. If your RealTrack filter is taking several seconds just to open, your PC is now *fishing* for the BB folder. Background programs could possibly be a cause, or RB has to search for the BB folder. I don't know how, but there is a way to save your RB set up(s).

If you can get RB to point and open the RT's faster and more consistent, you may want to try and save that as a set up.

I am sure someone else will point something out that we have missed here.

And defrag is your friend for faster file access on your HD as well.

I just Googled your PC. Introduction date 27 November 2005. What year are we now? Time flies and I hate to say it but that box is an antique. Athlon 64 2.2 means squat, it's a single core about the same as my old P4 2.8. Mine has 2 gigs ram and will render 5 RT's in 15-20 sec, a tad faster than yours but who cares. More memory will probably help you a bit but still, time to donate that Compaq if rendering times are your concern. A new quad core with 4 gigs or more of ram will render 5 RT's in 4 or 5 seconds according to several people here.
I just bought a brand new custom built to my order Athlon Phenom 6 core, a hot Gigabit motherboard, 1TB HD, 4 gigs ram, Win7 Ultimate 64 bit and other goodies for $575. I'll report when I start running Biab with it, I'm still setting it up and copying all my stuff from the other machine and I've yet to install my Emu 1820M. Not looking forward to that one but from what I've read it should install ok.
The downside to upgrading after having a machine for 5 years is deciding what's important, do I really care about this or that piece of software, where's the registration number/passwords, don't forget to copy all the bookmarks and emails, all kinds of stuff like that. I've copied a ton to my external drive but still, that old box has so many different things on it.

The best correlation for real tracks load time will be overall CPU speed. Google geek bench to download that program.
A slow machine is about 1,000
I just bought a new Acer i7 that has a geek bench of 8,300
