Hello All,
I just upgraded to version 3.6.13 and what a mess! I swore after the last upgrade, no more upgrades, but I got an ominous message about new security risks, etc. Now all my bookmarks have vanished and Mozilla's help section didn't help any. My navigation bar doesn't even save any recently visited websites.
Is there a quick fix or is an uninstall/re-stall recommended. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Don,
I have XP and I don't think it has a roll back feature. Firefox has a something like it- an option to roll back the bookmarks from any the of the last 5 days, but no luck.
Thanks.

Yup, "System Restore" is your friend.

Percy, unless you've turned it off, click: Start Programs Accessories System Tools System Restore
and follow the prompts.
This is usually quite successful and is normally undoable. Occasionally I've seen an "unable to restore" type message but I don't recall ever ending up with a broken machine. (I have a business in IT)

Gentlemen,
Many thanks.
When I first encountered the missing bookmarks, the Firefox help page suggested that a simple restart might restore the bookmarks; so I restarted but that didn't help. That's also probably why the System Restore didn't work in this instance, as Lawrie mentioned. Great suggestion though for any future problems!
Firefox was superior to IE when I first came across it years ago, but after the first upgrade, I wanted to uninstall it. I searched the web and seems many users did too, but it wasn't easy. I still have IE.

Another nice thing about Linux and open source like Firefox. The boys & girls that watch over Linux for us test all these new softwares prior to sending them to the repository for update or download. 3.6.13 works very good here however it has been tweaked.

I would check out xmarks.com. It's a nice free bookmark synchronization add-in for Firefox (as well as IE and Chrome). If you lose your bookmarks, you can regain them from the saved copy at xmarks. I also use it to synchronize my bookmarks between IE and Firefox, so I don't have to maintain two different sets, as well as synchronizing them between a couple of other computers I have.

John and Bob,
I never thought this latest update would automatically wipe out my bookmarks . You think there would be some kind of safeguard, or maybe I missed something.
Thanks for the tips.

I've just done the update on 2 separate machines with no problems...
Percy, I wonder if you have a (Windows) profile or registry corruption?

What's weird to me is I got prompted today to go to 3.5.1X
Wonder why you got updated to a newer version a few days ago. I got the upate prompt today, did it, and now have the above version. Guess I'll check into the next update before doing.

Bob, I wonder if the update is OS dependent? My Windows 7 updated fine to 3.6.13 and my bookmarks are still intact.

When notified of the initial update, I was given the option of the default install or the custom one. I selected custom, but the update proceeded w/o any further interaction on my part. Beats me.
In any case, I'll be prepared for the next one.

Thanks for the heads-up John. "Xmarks is a free add-on for your browser that synchronizes and backs up your bookmarks across multiple computers" This could be useful if you chop and change between browsers. However with my preferred browser, Chrome, I find that this happens automatically as soon as I sign in to my Google account. I'm pretty sure that Chrome will also pick up IE bookmarks ('favourites' I think they're called) from the PC it's running on.
Unless I'm missing something....

Percy, It's not been mention but the new update because you said custom may have created a new profile for you. Thus everything lost. If that's the case you may be OK. Take a look in, someone may need to help with the path as I've been in Linux too long, C:/ documents & settings/"what ever user you are/application data/mozilla/"your old profile". You can then copy and paste the total contents of the old profile into the folder of the new profile. BTW in order to see all the application data you need to allow viewing of hidden files & folders. I may also have the path a little off. You also can try this if it hasn't changed. Firefox has a hidden profile manager. Give it a shot and see if 2 profiles show up. Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP
1. Exit Firefox. To close Firefox, at the top of the Firefox window, select the File menu, and then select Exit. 2. Select the START menu in the Windows Taskbar. Then, select Run. 3. In the Run dialog, enter the following:
firefox.exe -ProfileManager
4. Click OK.
MAKE SURE YOU GET THE SYNTAX CORRECT

John,
The path ' firefox.exe -ProfileManager' indeed brings up the profile window, but I have just the one default profile. Deep within the path I see the default folder which holds the backup folder and 5 backup files from the last 5 days. Since I have the backup folders, I don't know why the bookmarks weren't retrievable following Mozilla's instructions.
So thanks for your step-by-step instructions; I'm going to tackle this later on.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
