BiabGuy, how can you be asking a pretty complex Biab question when you have an obvious driver/hardware problem with your computer? Please tell us the specific details of your system, CPU, Ram, HD size, O/S, all that stuff. We have to get your audio problems fixed before we can begin with your question.

Bob I will answer each of your questions.
I do have a driver/hardware problem with my computer. It doesn't render it useless, I just make do with what I have. It's still quite functional.

In spite of that, I still can ask pretty complex BIAB questions. One does not obviate the other.

Pentium M 1.86G CPU
2 G Ram
160 G HD
Win XP

I wasn't kidding when I said I could hear sound through my computer speakers despite the sound card drivers not working. Look my computer sound card is messed up. Here's the situation. My computer took a lightning hit a few years ago. Net result:
-One LAN port fried
-Internal USB ports recently became non-functional
-Sound card does not work with its drivers (strangely I get sound, so Windows drivers must work to some degree)

I did buy a mb replacement recently (exact same mb but haven't installed it). I just may do it if needed.
I've gotten by, by buying a USB internal card, using my second LAN port, and buying the Edirol UA-25EX.
Though I rarely use the Edirol. Most of the time I use my USB Logitech speakers and whatever sound my internal sound card and Windows gives me.

The fact you say "even with my UA 25-EX not plugged in, I still hear sound!!!" tells me with all due respect, you know next to nothing about digital audio and PC's. All you do is look at where your speakers are plugged in. If they're plugged into the audio output of your computer either at the back from the motherboard or from the front of your case, then the sound is coming from your computer, right?

Not true. While I freely admit that there is a heck of a lot I don't know about computer audio (as shown by my Edirol midi experience) I do have basic knowledge.

Your statement above actually shows a bit of a narrow-minded approach to computer hardware.
No, my speakers are not plugged into the audio output of my computer, either at the back or from the front of the case!

They are, in fact, plugged into a USB port!!!
Somehow that USB port must be connecting to my internal soundcard because I hear sound, despite the soundcard drivers not working/ being loaded. I just spent the entire day today trying to get the drivers working, but finally gave up again.

It would be a good idea for you to learn some basics about using a PC for digital audio work...A good place to go is Mac's website www.audiominds.com Click on the "Getting Started" tab in the upper left.

Thanks Bob I will have a look at it.
Again, while I admit there are obvious gaps in my computer audio knowledge, I do know a midi cable from an RCA cable from a phono jack from a USB cable etc. etc. etc.
