I may be wrong but don't think so. You can't render without a legitimate sound card installed.
Why don't you dump that machine and get something that hasn't been hit by lightning and start playing music? And as Bob stated you're all over the place with your questions. The only thing you should be doing at this point is opening BIAB, press play( forget about entering any more chords then the default C ) and making it make sound.

John it's not nearly as bad as I seem to be making it sound.

First off, because I use BIAB in fits and starts (sometimes I won't use it for many many months etc.) I forget many basic things. And when I come to some not-so-basic things as with my recent rendering experience etc., unless I make specific notes to refer back to, I could forget them quickly too.
I suppose I should change my name to "part-timeBIABguy".

I did render last night with a sound card (an external one).
Or at least the midi module was connected to this external sound card and then the sound card was connected to my computer. Whether the computer ultimately used the internal sound card with Windows' own drivers, is beyond me. I freely admit I don't know.

I do have a replacement motherboard ready to be used if need be. It's just that it would take hours to set up and unless there's an urgent need for it (say I totally lost my sound etc.) it's not something that's a priority for me now.

The fact is that currently, when I open BIAB I am able to hear sound, without entering anything more than a C chord.

As a matter of fact, for my current project of re-mixing some old 'BIAB tunes' (replacing the midi tracks with real tracks) I have been successful with two songs already.

The interesting thing was that I had no problem rendering my new Real track replacement tracks into wave files (which I import into my audio software).
I had problems rendering a midi track!

Also, I started off my project with a BIAB file that was loading a .wav file (same name) unbeknownst to me.
That threw me for a real loop! (no pun intended)
