First off, because I use BIAB in fits and starts (sometimes I won't use it for many many months etc.) I forget many basic things.

I completely agree with you here. If I don't open Biab for 6 weeks, I'll forget some simple basic thing too.

I do have a replacement motherboard ready to be used if need be.

You need be. The time is now, I'm amazed your PC does what it does.

The really big, major point here is you can't use comsumer crap like that Logitech mic for what is very close to pro audio work. Pro's use good equipment specifically designed for the task at hand. Also, everybody and their musician brother will tell you it's a very good idea to set up your PC for music production only. All your other household things can still work but they're secondary. Your focus has to be digital audio as explained on Mac's site and that's it. When was the last time you went into a Fry's or Best Buy and found a big name computer being advertised as great for multitrack digital audio music production as opposed to multimedia, gaming, graphics editing, Office 2010 and it's wonderfull spreadsheets, all that crap that has nothing to do with running a $500 DAW program? The answer is you won't. None of those companies care about that because we are a very small percentage of the market. It's up to you to understand this stuff and to set up your PC for this kind of work.
