BBG, one thing i want to add. If you have hums and sound issues with the edirol, and Tannoy speakers you have other issues. I have M-Audio monitors on my m- audio card, and i would never in a million years think of mixing music on Cheapo computer speakers again. Those are the one i hear hum and buzz and bad audio in. Good monitors like Tannoy should be clear and clean.
Allow me to clarify here. I have extremely sensitive hearing. I can't use 7200 rpm hard drives because the high pitched whine bothers me. I can't use many new CPU's because I feel the high frequencies in my head (pressure in the temples). The hums/sound issues I'm having when I connect my mixer/amp/Tannoy speakers are as follows. First, the power adapter to my Roland SC-55mkII is old and gives off a slight buzz that bothers me. Next when I fire up the mixer/amp/Tannoy speakers, the combination of those parts and their power transformers gives off a slight hum. Most people on this board would not even notice it. I do and it bothers me. That's the reason I use my el cheapo Logitech speakers for my computer work. They just give the music/sound signal with no low end hum whatsoever. I like that.

No one thinks you are recording with a logi cam, but you did tell us you use a logitach mike.
Let me clarify once again. I have Logitech speakers that I use and I also have a Logitech camera. The camera has a built-in mic. I use the camera and mic only when I am doing Skype chats etc. I never use either the camera or the mic when I do music with the computer. I'm not that dumb!

No one here means to belittle you, we want to help. But if you do not take it serious, why should we. You want to record and get good results, but do not want to really make the effort to do what folks suggest.
I do take my music very seriously. But recording/audio is another matter. I don't take it nearly as seriously as most folks here apparently do. Thus I don't go out and buy an expensive system and devote it exclusively to music. Nor do I rush out to repair a system that is functioning just fine for most things that I need to do with the computer.

I can't imagine using a computer that had been damaged by a electrical surge, to the point that stuff was not functioning properly, then ask folks to help me fix a problem. That is like towing a broken down car to a garage and asking for an oil change.
I have a better analogy. Why throw out the baby with the bath water? I have gotten rid of the dirty bath water and replaced it with good clean water. Fortunately the strike was confined to: 1. Cable modem 2. Router 3. LAN port #1 4. My USB ports (they took about a year or so before they kicked the bucket) The USB ports are housed in the same casing as the LAN ports.
I replaced the modem and router. I am using LAN port #2 now. I bought a new USB card recently. The rest of my system is functioning very nicely. The sound card actually functions, when its drivers load properly (which is not too often). Because I couldn't get the two to work reliably, I went out and bought my Edirol UA-25EX a year or two ago.
Quote:
You get the level of results from the level of effort put into it. Rebuild your system so it is fully functional, and then let's all dig in and solve any leftover problems.
It's funny, but with all of this ganging up on my system, each and every one of my BIAB problems that I've had over the past couple of years (including recently) have all been fixed! And NOT A SINGLE ONE of them was attributable to my lousy computer system!!!
