I have the UltraPlus pack2010 on a portable drive and I would like to make a back-up of my disk to another portable drive. I have dropped my original BIAB drive and it is now acting up so I need to back it up in a hurry. If I try to copy my BIAB drive to my new portable drive it mentions that it will take 29 hours only for the Applications file??? What is the best way to do it?? Any suggestion would be most welcomed

You don't mention which Mac you got? On old models the usb port on the keyboard only runs usb 1, so use the usb 2 port on the back of of your mac. run repair disk from disk utility or even better try diskwarrior before you copy.

Hi Svenne, I have a Mac G4 with 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Mac OSX 10.4.11. It has USB 2 ports and also a Firewire port. My Seagate portable drive already has a backup software built-in but the problem is the 29 hours backup time...!!! Jacques

Hey jacques, Have you tried to at least start backing up the drive ? The 29 hours may be an estimate, that drops very quickly to a more reasonable number once you start the process. The reason I say that is I just swapped out the main drive in my macpro. I used Carbon Copy cloner ( which works great BTW, http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/7032/carbon-copy-cloner ). My original drive was a 250 Gig and the new one was 500 Gig. There was about 200 Gigs on the old drive to be transferred. At the start of the process it told me it was going to take 18 hours ( !), but after about 30 minutes that dropped to 8 hours, and in the end it took about 5. Hopefully this helps. - Jay

Hello Jay, I followed your advice and backup using Carbon Copy Cloner. I copied 90 Go and it took 30 hours!!! Your Mac must be faster than mine. But it worked fine, so thanks again for your reply. Jacques

Whoa ! That's a long time, but I'm glad you were able to get it backed up. The drive I cloned was internal in a MacPro so it was SATA. Possibly the USB speed was the reason it took so long. I've been using CCC for years, the first time it saved by bacon, I quickly made a donation to the guy who wrote it. It really is a handy program. Sorry if I misled you on the estimated time, it was just a guess on my part, but I'm glad you got it sorted. - jay
