Make 1 folder for your songs. Save the Biab file and your RB or Pt file. If you have audio save it in the same folder, just create a folder called audio. This way everything you need for each song is in 1 convenient folder. I hope that this helps!

I can't see the rest of this chat string, but could you run that by me again? I'm new to RB but have been using BIAB for a few years. It's pretty easy to find your songs in BIAB but I've had to do a lot keystrokes and mousing to find my songs in RB.
Any other tips for file organization would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry it has taken so long to reply.

Here is this in action, this saves me so much time it is amazing.

I save all my original songs under L: My Songs. L is the hard drive letter, My Songs is the main folder name.

For examples sake, I have just written a new song entitled Butterflies in a Jar.

I will create the new song in Biab.

I will now go to L: My Songs and open My Songs Folder, and hit new and create a new folder, and name it Butterflies in a Jar. I will double click to open this folder and then save the created Biab song with the title Butterflies in a Jar.

In the original post I talked about creating an audio folder which would be created in the Butterflies in a Jar folder, for saving audio files in. This Audio folder is not really necessary, it is just another step.

Now I will convert the Biab instruments to wave files and save them in the Butterflies in a Jar folder If you are using saved midi files they will go here to.

Once I have all of the audio files I wish to add to the song, I will open my Daw of choice and import the audio files and midi.

Tip on Daw files. Save the original DAW file unmixed, nothing added. No panning, no effects, nothing. Example would be Butterflies in a Jar Reset for a name, reset just tells me this is the unedited version.

This way you can always start over and you will have the original unedited files, incase an error in editing happens.

I will then mix the song and save it under the song title and add mix to the end and a number. Example: Butterflies in a jar mix 1. I will use numbers so that if I want to remix I can, It would be 1,2 etc. This way if after mixing I decide to go back and tweak I can without necessarily starting over. The final mix will just be called Butterflies in a Jar mix. I will then delete all of the numbered files just to save space.

When I get the final mix I like I will then export an audio file called Butterflies in a Jar Mix.wav

I will then Master this audio file and save it as Butterflies in a Jar MASTER.wav. I capitalize Master just so I know this is the final version of the song. Just makes it a little easier to recognize.

Once again this is all done in My Songs(example only) inside the folder named Butterflies in a Jar

Another tip: If you save your songs on your computer and not an external hard drive like I do, drag the original folder which in this example was My Songs, to your desktop, and then you can open it quickly to find the song you want and go quickly to any file you need. Double click and it will open with the appropriate program.

Create a folder for your previously finished song titles in the My Songs folder and then drag each individual song into its corresponding folder. That way every song you have done is under one roof named MY Songs (example name only).

Hopefully this will help you create more music with less time searching for files.

I hope this was understandable to everyone. If there is any questions feel free to respond I promise to be quicker on the response this time, trust me this will save you loads of time when dealing will files.
